Since we were occupied with the museum and beignets on Black Friday, we ended up not getting our Christmas tree until Sunday. We went early so we could be productive the rest of the day, and we ended up getting the whole house decorated.
We started with breakfast at IHOP first. Rory was a bit whiny until the bacon arrived, but Riley was very excited about his pancakes and blueberry syrup.
After breakfast, we headed to Lowes on Nola and Nopsi’s recommendation. They got their trees there on Friday and said the selection was pretty good. We ended up buying the very first (and only) tree we looked at. And it may just be the biggest, fattest tree we’ve ever had. I freaking love it.
Kenny had the tree inside and decked out with lights by the time the boys went to bed that night. We had each of them hang the first two ornaments, and then we decorated the rest of it later. When they woke up the next morning, they were thrilled to discover our beautiful tree.
So. Pretty.
The boys also discovered something else waiting for them that morning. Roux is back!
Riley was so excited to see his elf friend again. Roux parachuted in from the North Pole on Monday morning and brought new Christmas plates and cups. He even convinced Mama and Daddy to let the boys have donuts for breakfast.
Roux has already put himself in a few interesting places since he’s been here. I’ll of course do a few recap posts about his antics throughout the month. He has a little less than three weeks left with us, so I can only imagine what mischief he’ll get up to before he flies back to the North Pole with Santa on Christmas Eve.
Just before Thanksgiving, I was thinking to myself that I totally wasn’t ready for it to be Christmas. I think it’s because stores these days insist on hitting us over the head with holiday things before the previous holiday (or two) has even passed. I almost feel like fall didn’t even happen this year. But now that my decorations are all put out and our tree is up and gorgeous and my boys are getting excited, I’m ready to immerse myself in the Christmas spirit.
Plus, our monstrous tree makes my house smell incredible. That helps too.
