Twenty-Two Months

Twenty-two months….where does the time go???

Riley weighs 29.4 pounds and stands about 36 inches tall.

Here’s what I want to remember about this past month:

  • He tried some new foods this month: celery, coleslaw, sushi (crunchy roll), goat cheese, smoothies (both homemade green and Smoothie King’s Mangofest), and animal crackers. He’s eating fairly well but not completely consistently from meal to meal. And he hasn’t had as much interest in his milk lately, which is interesting.
  • His talking has continued to increase, if you can believe it. Some of his newest phrases are “it’s alright, Riley,” “just a few,” “you’re fine,” “have to go see ‘em,” “have to get some more,” “need to slow down,” “ nice and warm,” “snug as a bug,” “ looky looky” (he says this when trying on my shoes….no idea where he got it from), “I’m not mad,” “nuh-huh,” “yeah no,” silly goose,” “little bitty bitty baby one,” “geaux tigers,” “lemme put your badge on.”
  • He knows Daddy’s name is Kenny and Mama’s name is Courtney.
  • He loves to vacuum (although he calls the small dustbuster “a little scary”) and to help with the laundry. I am way okay with both.
  • He now has 16 teeth. He’s been sucking on his fingers lately, so he may be getting his last 4 (molars). He also started chewing on the collars of his shirts this month.
  • He rapidly flaps his wrists when he doesn’t want to do something, and he also does a similar thing when he’s pretending to flap like a bird.
  • He’s doing much better with me leaving him in the nursery for Jazzercise class, but he still makes sure I’m going to “come and get you.”
  • He has been requesting songs from his music class a lot this month, which tells me he really enjoyed going. Gali Gali has been the most requested.
  • He has developed a somewhat nightly ritual with his daddy: playing on the stairs with his green spiky ball. Kenny lies on his back on the lower set of stairs and Riley drops the ball over the upper railing to him. Kenny throws it back up and the game continues.
  • He has started randomly running laps around the living room, dining room, and front hallway.
  • He still loves watching Mickey and Chuck, but his new favorite is Chuggington. He hasn’t quite figured out the correct way to phrase his request for the show yet, though. I often hear “Do you wanna watch trains?” Sure buddy, I would LOVE to watch trains.

I tried my best to get a picture of him in his chair, but he wasn’t have any of it. He’s actually been wanting to be in his crib a lot these days, even when it’s not time to sleep. (One time when I went in to get him after his nap he said to me, “Just wanna sleep!” Funny kid.

So, here is his twenty-two-month-old stubborn self, in his crib and perfectly content at 9 in the morning.

Video Friday: Sprinkler

Last weekend was Riley’s first experience with a classic, must-do summer activity: playing in the sprinkler. While I was in Paris, Grandma bought Riley a really cool serpent-like sprinkler, which is what Kenny originally set up in the backyard last Sunday.

However, the boy was mighty wary of his new water toy and almost immediately marched into the garage to find our more traditional lawn sprinkler, which he has enjoyed watching water the grass in the past.

After both were hooked up and working, it still took him a little while to get used to the idea. He eventually played in the water, though, especially after Daddy showed him how to run through. He ended up having a really fun time, but mostly with the older sprinkler.

But then he just wanted to hold the hose, so Kenny unhooked the lawn sprinkler and turned over the hose to the boy.

First he wanted a drink…..

Thanks, Grandma, for providing the initiative to do this activity. I’m hoping he learns by summer’s end that the serpent sprinkler really is fun and that he’s supposed to laugh when it sprays him in the face, not cry. Oh, well.

Here’s a video of Riley and Daddy running through the sprinkler. Enjoy!

Happy Friday!

Doodlebug Love

It’s hard to believe, but Aunt E has just six short weeks left in her pregnancy. It seems like just yesterday that they announced to the family they were pregnant.

Much like Kenny and I did with Bean, Jeff and Erin chose a nickname for the baby while in utero: Doodlebug. And this past weekend was full of love for Doodlebug. There were not one but two baby showers thrown in his (or her) honor.

Erin’s good friends Jenn and Trisha gave the first shower, held on Saturday afternoon at Nola’s house. Doodlebug’s nursery is decorated in gray and yellow, and Erin loves owls, so Jenn and Trisha carried both ideas over as the shower theme. I’m sure they found lots of inspiration on Pinterest, but they put all of the decor together themselves and did such an amazing job. Everything was so cute and creative.

As people continued to arrive, the pile of presents in front of the fireplace kept growing and growing and growing. Erin went home with so many wonderful gifts {that she then had to find a place for}. Doodlebug will certainly want for nothing once she (or he) makes an entrance into the world, thanks to the generosity of lots of family and friends.

Jeff even got a present! Lizzie was responsible, and I am sure it was a much appreciated gift.

Way to go, Jenn and Trisha. Next to my own (which of course I am partial to), this was such a beautifully thrown baby shower. You girls obviously put a lot of thought and care into your plans, and everything turned out wonderfully. I am sure Erin will remember the day fondly for a long time to come.

The second shower was held the next day at Erin’s cousin’s house across the lake. Coincidentally, owls were present once again throughout the shower decor. Everything was so lovely, and Erin now has lots of little owls to scatter around Doodlebug’s domain. Too bad the owls on top of both cakes were made of fondant; they would have been a cute addition to the nursery as well!

But was it a coincidence that the mom-to-be wore pink to both of her showers? Only time will tell.

Hurry up and get here, Doodlebug; everyone can’t wait to meet you!

Weekend Boys

I love weekends when the three of us are all home. Weekends mean I get to watch my boys together.

Whether they be sitting on a windowsill eating breakfast (as instructed by Riley)…..
