Eight Things

1. Riley wanted to call Grandma the other morning, so Kenny dialed the number and handed him the phone. He had an actual conversation with her for a couple of minutes!

2. Rory is really loving looking at the ceiling fans these days, and he has the perfect view when he’s on my lap on the sofa. Then Riley decided he didn’t want to miss out on all the fun, so he climbed up to join us.

3. I took Rory for his first stroller ride two Thursdays ago. I think he likes being outside, just like his big brother.

4. Two days after his first ride, we put Rory back in his stroller to take a family walk. It was an absolutely glorious {and unexpectedly cool} April weekend. We walked up to the levee and then back down to the playground near our house.

5. We went over to Nola and Nopsi’s house for dinner the day after our walk and Riley took a bath there. I hadn’t brought any of his pajamas with us, so he borrowed one of Nola’s t-shirts. He slept in it all night!

6. Here are some pictures of the little one from the past couple of weeks.

He sure is cute, but I sure do wish he slept better!

Don’t let the pictures fool you.

7. Riley and I introduced Rory to Mickey one recent morning. I wonder if he’ll love the mouse as much as his big brother does.

8. Riley is proving to be a very sweet big brother. He asks after Rory often and chooses to be near him more than I thought he would. Of course he does rather play with his trucks the majority of the time, but it’s moments like these that I cherish.

Video Monday: I Love You

When QP was here one recent Thursday, she and Riley came downstairs at one point to say hi to Rory, who was luckily behaving in his bouncy seat. QP suggested that Riley sing to his brother, so he started singing his own little made-up song consisting of only three words.

Hope you enjoy.

Happy Monday!

Sofa Seat

Lately Riley has been sitting on the sofa in slightly different positions than he usually does. He started out perched on the back of one of the sofa’s arms (in a full Mickey trance)…..

…..but then he quickly moved on to a better, fully laid out position.

He’s so funny when he wants to get in his new spot, too. He’ll climb halfway up and look at me for {semi} permission to go the rest of the way.

But then he’ll ignore whatever I say and get up there anyway.

What can I say…..he’s definitely two and a half.

Rory’s Birth Announcement

I got Rory’s birth announcements in last week and was able to address and send all 72 of them out before the weekend.

Of course I only had time to do so because Riley was at Nola and Nopsi’s house and I decided to let Rory cry for 40 minutes in the hopes he would fall asleep and take a nap. No such luck. But I did get the announcements done, in between sniffling and wiping my own tears away. Sigh.

When Rory was just over a week old Kenny and I bribed Riley with candy corn to sit in the rocking chair with his brother on his lap so I could take some pictures.

I got some pretty darn cute ones.

We used one of those on the announcement, as well as one of Rory’s hospital pictures and a family picture we took at Grams and Bop’s anniversary dinner.

And voila! There you have it.

Welcome to the world, Rory David. We love you so much.

More Playmat Fun

Riley has started to show a renewed interest in his old playmat since we’ve brought it back out for Rory. He made his daddy lay under it with him one morning last weekend…..

…..and then he did the same with his mama. Silly wonk potatoes.

We also used the playmat for Rory’s very first tummy time one night last week…..

Rory didn’t lift his head up quite as much as his brother did his first time on his tummy, but he did okay. He holds his head up a lot when I have him over my shoulder to burp him, so we’ll continue to give tummy time a try every now and then.

I’m sure he’ll be in control of his noggin before too long!

Quality Time Away {Jay’s Wedding}

Two Fridays ago Kenny and I were able to get out of the house together, by ourselves, for a few hours. Grandma came over to stay with the boys while we went to the wedding reception of my brother’s college roommate Jay and his new bride Katie.

We missed the ceremony because of Rory’s feeding schedule, but it must have been beautiful: it was held outside in front of the restored Popp Fountain in City Park. The sun was just setting as we walked up to the newly constructed building behind the fountain (where the reception was held), and I snapped this photo. So pretty.

Even though I was nervous leaving Rory behind, I knew he was in Grandma’s capable hands so I tried to relax and enjoy myself. Nola, Nopsi, Kel-Kel, Skeets, Lizzie, Doug, and lots of Jeff’s friends were all at the reception, and it was great to be among adults for the night.

The Top Cats played some great music, the food was tasty, and a good time was had by all. Lizzie, Doug, Nopsi, Kel-Kel, and I even got put into the painting that Alex Harvie was doing of the reception (he also did Lizzie’s wedding). See if you can tell where we all are!

Kenny and I did have to leave suddenly, though, just as the reception was ending. We had left Grandma at home with a bottle of breastmilk for Rory’s 9pm feeding. (I had 7 ounces in the freezer from when I pumped one day a few weeks before.) Having no idea how much Rory eats in a feeding, we decided to defrost 3 ounces. Well, Grandma called us to say that he had sucked that down and was crying for more. The timing was perfect, though, so we hightailed it home.

We were so glad we could be there to celebrate with Jay and Katie on their big night, and we had a great time among family and friends. Everything was so beautiful, and the newly married couple couldn’t have looked happier.

Congratulations, you two!
