Ten Things

1. Scott and Jacque have a baby boy! Colin James was born on February 18 at 11:18pm. I can’t wait to meet him.

2. This boy still loves being outside and watching any kind of machine at work.

3. Rory had the flu last week and was home from school for two days. Luckily, his case was a mild one. However, that meant he acted fairly normal most of the time and just wanted to play. It was hard keeping him quiet! But he did fall asleep on me one day, which was so sweet.

4. Riley has officially attended 30 tae kwan do classes and got his WMA tshirt a couple of weeks ago. He was excited to wear it to class last Friday.

5. He set this up and asked me to take a picture of him. So I did.

6. Playing old school games and cuddling together on a Sunday morning.

7. My new glasses came in! I am continually amazed at how clear everything is when I wear them. I asked Kenny if this is how he sees the world all the time, to which he responded, “Uh, yeah.”

8. Kate had a special Mardi Gras themed dance class last Thursday, so she got to wear some beads and a feather headband. Isn’t she cute??

9. Treated my boys to Tutti Frutti on Friday afternoon!

10. I have been for only a handful of runs since coming back from Disney, but I bit the bullet and signed up for the 2018 Disney half marathon. Start praying now that the weather isn’t a factor next year. Here we go again!

Inaugural NOTC Mardi Gras 5K and Caesar Parade

Last Saturday officially kicked off Mardi Gras for us. That morning, Jeff and I ran the first ever Mardi Gras 5K race, put on by NOTC. The course was on part of the Metairie parade route, starting at Causeway and Vets, going down to Bonnabel and then all the way to West Esplanade, and back. It was a great morning, although a little warm out, and I actually set a PR: I finished in 36:13 with a pace of 11:41.

I picked up our first crawfish of the season from Rouses for Kenny and I to have for lunch and got sweet cuddles from my boys when I got home. Rory hadn’t been feeling the greatest, so we weren’t sure what that meant for our evening plans.

The Caesar parade, one of our Metairie favorites, rolled that night. Unfortunately, Kenny and I decided that it would be best for Rory to skip the parade, so Riley and I went on our own to meet everyone.

It was a nice night, lots of friends and family showed up, and Riley was really into seeing the floats this year. It was a great way to start off another fun Mardi Gras season!

Billy Joel, Harry Potter, and Valentine’s Day

On February 10, Kenny and I had a really fun night out. We went to dinner at Willa Jean and then to the arena for a Billy Joel concert. It was such a fun show; Billy even interspersed New Orleans songs in between his hits. We had an amazing time!

Two days later, on Sunday, February 12, something I have been patiently waiting for finally happened. It was earlier than I thought it would be, and I’m still not sure it was the right decision, but it’s done. Riley and I started reading the first Harry Potter book. And he is hooked. I LOVE it.

Two more days later, we had a few surprises waiting for the boys at their breakfast table when they woke up on Valentine’s Day. They each got Valentine socks and candy. Rory chose to give his school friends a York (just like Riley did last year), while Riley chose to give Scooby Doo gummies. And, with only a little help from me with the “y,” Rory signed his own name on his Valentine card to Mrs. Claire and Ms. Lisa. I was so proud of him!

Kenny and I had a belated Valentine’s dinner at home last Friday. It was so nice actually sitting together at our table and chatting all evening. Thanks for a fantastic night, Baby!
