A Friday at City Park

The boys always have the day after Halloween off of school on account of parent-teacher conferences. They're both doing really well this year, so Kenny and I decided we didn't need to go in and talk with any of their teachers. Kenny went off to work as usual, and the boys and I took a field trip to City Park. It was a beautiful Friday!

We snagged an outside table at Cafe du Monde, and they ran off to play while I ordered beignets, milk, and coffee. They paused long enough to grab a few bites when the food came out, and then they were off again. Meanwhile, I enjoyed my coffee and watched them from afar. They don't get along ALL the time, but for the most part they genuinely seem to enjoy being together. I am so grateful for that.

We finished up and moved over to a bench by the playground. Both boys had been busy collecting sticks and Spanish moss, which they stashed in a secret hiding place, saying they hoped it would be there the next time we came.

After a bunch of silliness on the slides, they pulled out the four monster trucks we had brought with us and created a game. They even made a new friend and made sure to share and include him. They were really very sweet with him, which was lovely to watch.

Such a fun morning with my boys!

School Days: Student of the Week {Rory}

On the afternoon of Friday, October 25, Rory was surprised in his classroom: he became the next Student of the Week and got to take the class pet, Goldie, home for the weekend. He was so excited!

He also had a poster to fill out, a journal entry to complete, and a book to read. He did lots of fun things with Goldie that weekend, including taking him to Boo Bash!

Goldie went back to school with Rory on Monday and he shared his poster with his class. Then on Tuesday he brought in his favorite snack (Mario gummies) for all of his classmates. On Wednesday he brought in his favorite book (Book with No Pictures), and on Thursday (Halloween Day) Goldie got to sit on his desk all day long. He also got to bring in his favorite toy (Orangey) to show his class and share his journal entry that he wrote about his weekend with Goldie. Then he passed Goldie on to the next SOTW, Scarlett.

Such a fun week for my boy!

Halloween 2019

Our Halloween festivities started on Friday, October 25 with the annual SCR Boo Bash. The weather did not cooperate this year, so the event unfortunately had to be moved to the gym. We thought it was going to be absolutely insane up there, but it worked! We did decide not to haul all of our planned decorations upstairs, but at least we have a head start on next year.

Sunday dinner that weekend was Halloween themed, thanks to Riley's request. He remembered that Nola and Nopsi usually do something festive around Halloween, so they made sure to continue the tradition. Not sure they would have if he hadn't said something!

Halloween was on a Thursday, and it was cold. We stopped by Nola and Nopsi's to say a quick hello and then went on to Ashley and Greg's for our customary gathering. Riley was dressed as his favorite Treasure X character (Exis), and Rory was Luigi.

As soon as we got back to the house after trick or treating, the candy swap commenced. Ashley also passed out packs of Zombie Skittles to everyone. They're sort of like Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Beans in that you don't know if you're getting something good or something gross. Steve didn't seem bothered by any of them, but Kenny's reaction was the best.

We passed by Nola and Nopsi's street on the way home and Rory insisted we stop and see the big Halloween display in the first block. He even got out of the car (in the freezing cold!) to pose for pictures.

Happy Halloween, y'all!
