Neighborhood Playground

Our new house backs up to a decent-sized area of green space that is owned by the city. It’s mostly the right-of-way for the power lines and their towers, but there is a good stretch of open grass right outside our back fence.

We live on the second block of a three-block street, with the last block effectively ending at the levee in front of Lake Pontchartrain. Near the end of the green space on the third block is a little playground maintained by the city.

We had so many things on our calendar in April and May that it took almost two months from our move-in date before I got Riley out there. But I finally did last Saturday, after a long walk up and over the levee and down to where construction is going on at the edge of the lake. (I just had to let Riley have an up-close look at all of the big machines. He loved seeing some of them in action.)

There is another neighborhood playground right by Nola and Nopsi’s house, which we visited frequently when we lived with them. And while those playsets are bigger and fancier, that playground lacks one critical element: swings! Luckily, our newfound playground has two swings, which Riley just loved.

After many slides and a couple of turns on the swings, Riley-bean took a quick break for juice inside the little tunnel, and then we headed back home after a really fun morning.

It really is a shame we didn’t take advantage of this playground before now: it is getting awfully hot outside. Riley, of course, could probably care less about the blazing heat beating down on us, but I do. However, I’ll do my level best to suck it up as best I can if it means I get to see this smiling, happy face when we go out there.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
