Twenty-One Months {Rory}

Rory is 21 months old today. It won’t be too much longer until I start stating his age in years and not months. Is it really possibly he’ll be two in March? Gulp.

At 21 months, he weighs 27.4 pounds and stands about 33 inches tall. He is still wearing some 18-month things but mostly is in 24-month or 2T clothes. He wears a size 5 diaper and a size 7 shoe.

Here’s what I want to remember about this past month:

  • His eating habits are fairly good, although we have had to get a bit creative. If there’s something on his plate that he doesn’t want, we often have to bribe him with a bite of something he does want first. As long as I show him something he wants, he’ll open his mouth for a bite of the thing he doesn’t want in order to get the good stuff. Make sense? Dinner is all about trickery and mind games with this one.
  • He still loves his milk but hasn’t been drinking quite as much of it lately.
  • His sleep has been very consistent: in bed around 7pm and up and raring to go around 5:30am. No fun. I guess this kid just doesn’t need as much sleep as his brother seemed to at his age.
  • He is still napping one time a day, usually for 2-2.5 hours. A few recent days it’s been much less but I’m hoping those days were flukes.
  • He is still not talking. He does use the sign for “more please” fairly often and we are starting to teach him the sign for “thank you” but he just doesn’t want to try to form the actual words. Frustrating!
  • He still LOVES books. And Mickey. And he usually wants to do whatever his brother is doing. He loves being close to him. However, with Riley’s latest obsession (Legos), that’s not always a good thing. Especially because…..
  • He is becoming a bit of a destructor: he is constantly throwing toys and banging trucks on tables and driving things along the walls. And if I tell him no? He just smiles and continues doing it. Stinker.
  • However, if I refuse to let him do something that he really wants to do, he throws a tantrum. He lays facedown on the floor, puts his head in his hands, and cries. I ignore this behavior and he eventually calms down. It would appear that both of my boys are stubborn just like their mama.
  • He loves kicking his legs. When he’s in the bathtub, when I’m trying to change his diaper or dry him off or get his dressed, etc. Sometimes it’s cute but sometimes it’s not.
  • He loves being outside and pushing his trucks around. And when he gets going, watch out. He runs SO fast down the sidewalk when he’s pushing his trucks. I just know he’s going to bite it one of these days, hard. And there won’t be anything I can do about it.
  • He has started to try to jump very recently, which is so darn adorable. I remember Riley doing the same thing.
  • He is developing quite the little personality. I love when he gets into his “crazy” moods, babbling incoherently and running around shaking his head and sometimes falling down on purpose. He is such a silly boy and I love that about him.

Twenty-one months old!
