Last weekend was the big Breakfast with Santa event at Riley’s school. We went last year and had a fantastic time, so there was no question we would go this year too. Even Flo came with us.
Once again, it was a really fun way to spend a Saturday morning. Lots of Riley’s classmates were there (most notably Claire and Alcee), and Riley had a great time running around with his friends. Oh, and eating doughnuts. Many doughnuts.
Riley also participated in many of the craft stations: he assembled a bag of reindeer food, made a bracelet for me, decorated a birthday cupcake for Jesus, and got a candy cane tattoo (which we didn’t wash off until Sunday night).
Meanwhile, Rory and Colin occupied themselves with a couple of trucks we had brought, rolling them back and forth on the floor and walking all around the gym carrying them. Boys and wheels, what else can I say.
The three musketeers were in full force that morning, running all over the gym together. They were so excited to be reunited for a couple of hours. And I’m excited to get them together yet again: we are actually hosting a little Christmas party at our house after school today. Should be lots of festive fun.
When it came time to take the boys’ picture with Santa, I figured that Riley would be no problem and that Rory would probably freak out. It was a bit of a struggle to get Riley to stop playing, but he eventually cooperated. And I was completely right about Rory: he totally lost it when I put him on Santa’s lap.
I can’t wait to get the official picture back. I hope it accurately captures the mood of the situation.
That evening, after the boys had dinner, Kenny and I decided to take them on a walk around our neighborhood to look at Christmas lights. I wish it had been colder (we were all in short sleeves!), but we had a great time nevertheless. It was a great way to end our day.
I just love Christmas.
And my little family.
