Rory’s third birthday party was last Saturday afternoon at our house. Rain was unfortunately in the forecast again and this time we didn’t get so lucky. It was pretty yucky all day long. And it was chilly. Really chilly for March.
Rory was also not in the best of moods. He napped pretty well but he woke up acting like he was still tired. However, I put him in his party t-shirt (Aunt E found it on Amazon; don’t you love it??) and led him into the transformed dining room. He was so excited to see all of the truck decorations.
People started arriving a little after 3, and most stayed inside considering the rain. I felt bad that no one really wanted to jump inside the bouncy house that we rented, but I couldn’t control the weather, as much as I would have liked to.
Some of the kids eventually went to jump, but we called them in after a bit for cake. We took a few pics, sang “Happy Birthday,” and then Kenny reluctantly cut into his creation. I was sorry we had to destroy it, but c’est la vie. There was good cake in there!
The birthday boy didn’t want anything to do with eating his cake. All he kept asking to do from practically the moment his party started was open his presents. So we finally let him. I suppose that was our mistake from the get-go, but I didn’t want to do presents that early! He got some great stuff, though. Mostly trucks (all new ones; nothing we already had!) but some clothes, a cute monogrammed towel and pillowcase, books, and a DVD. Thanks everyone!
It wasn’t until most people had left that Rory wanted to go bounce. (After having a snack first, though.) It had stopped raining at this point, but it was still chilly. Rory didn’t care; he had a ball. Finally!
I laid on the top of one of the slides and Rory tried to climb up to me over and over and over again. He had so much fun and wore himself out with all of that climbing.
Then he wanted to take some selfies so I obliged. (I snuck in some with Kenny, too.) He’s such a sweet boy; he even gave me a kiss.
It wasn’t the best party ever, but it was a great time celebrating our boy. And I have grand plans to repurpose the big truck parade from the dining room to Rory’s room, so hopefully he will be happy about that.
Happy happy third birthday, Rory. We love you so much!
