Too Much Fun

We have been having way too much fun the past few weeks. Here’s what we’ve been up to.

On December 11, we went to Celebration in the Oaks with Nola, Nopsi, AD#1, Grandma, Uncle Jeff, Aunt E, Kate, Kel-Kel, and Skeets. We met at Lakeview Harbor for dinner before we headed to City Park.

We made the mistake of going on a Friday night; the park was pretty crowded. We went to the train first to make sure we got on. Both boys (and Kate) loved taking a ride around the park and seeing all the lights. And Riley finally got to see his beloved green snake!

Rory’s favorite thing was the model train yard. We had a hard time getting him to leave!

My favorite part was a huge oak tree festooned with lights, dubbed the “Dripping Snow Tree.” The kids stood under it and looked up, in awe.

After that we walked by the retelling of the Cajun Night Before Christmas and then made our way into the rose garden, the place where Kenny proposed 8 years ago, and to the huge poinsettia tree in the Conservatory, before heading home.

We all said we would try our best not to go on a Friday night again. It also didn’t help that it was very warm and humid out and that my children were beyond control. But at least we made it there; Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without a trip to Celebration in the Oaks.

Two days later, on Sunday, December 13, the boys and I went to Karen’s for our customary kids’ Christmas party. We decorated gingerbread houses again, and both of my boys actually ended up participating, after I coaxed Rory away from Nathan’s trucks.

Once all of the kids were done, I lined all of their houses up and took some group pictures. I love them being silly!

I was so proud that each of my boys made a house, and they really love their finished products. Their two works of art are on display in our kitchen, and Rory always points to his and says, “My house.”

Last Friday was our annual Christmas lunch in the Rib Room at the Omni Royal Orleans. Once again, AD#1 offered to watch the boys so I could attend the lunch. Thank you so much! Dana came this year, along with other first-timers Candice and Sheila.

We had a great time, and I even made friends with a group of gentleman sitting at a table near us. We were jealous of their blinking hats and lighted Christmas tree table decorations. So much so that Perry is already making plans for our table next year. Oh, and Dana and I totally used our white chocolate pirouttes that came with our dessert as lightsabers. It was a great day.

Lunch lasted over 4 hours; I got home just in time to relieve AD#1 so she could go to work. I fed the boys dinner, Kenny bathed them when he got home, and then we bundled them up in PJs, jackets, and a blanket. We piled them in the wagon and set off on another {new} Christmas tradition: walking around our neighborhood looking at Christmas lights.

‘Tis the season, y’all. I can’t believe Christmas is 4 days away!
