We spent Turkey Day this year at Nola and Nopsi’s house. QP and James were in Key West, but the rest of Nola’s family was in town, including AD#1, Cub and Car, Uncle Bill and Aunt Elena, and Tommy and Billy.
As usual, Nola had everything looking so fantastic. She used tons of fresh fruits and vegetables for her centerpieces this year, piled in wooden trays that Nopsi made. The two tables looked great.
The kids spent the hour before dinner attempting to escape outside to play, even though their parents tried to keep them inside and clean. We fought a losing battle, though: they got their way and played outside until we sat down to eat. Three turkeys!
We also did something else before we ate: Cub and Car had a big announcement for us. We knew they were expecting their first baby (eek!), but they revealed the baby’s gender to the family on Thanksgiving. Cub gave everyone a glass of champagne and we had to drop red or blue food coloring in it based on what we thought the gender would be. I chose red; Kenny chose blue.
Everyone chose except AD#1. Then Cub poured the official color into her glass and the gender was revealed: they are having a BOY! So exciting.
Dinner was, of course, SO good. (Although Riley kept calling it lunch. But he did a great job with his turkey.) My plate was full, and I finished every bit of it. And then had pieces of mud and pecan pie. Sorry not sorry.
It was a great day with family. Everyone ate too much, but then we danced it out. It wouldn’t have been a meal at Nola and Nopsi’s without a dance party.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Now onto Christmas.
Oh, and a very Happy Birthday to QP today…..we love you!
