This month has been full of so many adults-only events (holla!) that I decided to do a two-part miniseries on all of the fun times. Here’s part one.
1. For my birthday, Grandma got tickets for the So You Think You Can Dance Live Tour on November 5. The performance was at the Saenger, and it was our first time back there since before Katrina. Just as beautiful as ever.
The tour was fantastic; it was so great seeing those talented kids dance live. Simply amazing. Grandma and I agreed that we would be right back there next year.
2. As y’all know, Kenny was out of town for my actual birthday, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t celebrate. He surprised me with a night out the Friday before: dinner at Meauxbar and dessert at Muriel’s. Thanks, Baby; you sure know how to make a girl feel special. (But my new black boots kinda helped, too.)
3. This is Kirk. (And Rory.)
I have known Kirk since high school, and he just recently moved back to New Orleans after spending time in both New York and Los Angeles. He was cast as the lead in Hair at Le Petite Theater, and I quickly decided I wanted to go. My friend Karen knew him back in the day, too, so she came with me.
We had a great dinner at Tableau before the performance, a kind of mini birthday celebration for the two of us since our birthdays are four days apart. And the show itself was so much fun. Neither of us had ever seen that particular play before; it was very energetic with a great cast and great music.
Kirk did a phenomenal job in the role of Claude. It was so great to hear him sing again. He actually hadn’t been onstage in a play since before Katrina; in fact, there’s a really neat story of how he has come full circle since then. You can read about it here.
Three fun events down and three more to come. Stay tuned for part two of “No Kids November,” coming up sometime next week.
