For the third year in a row, I got up early on Thanksgiving morning and headed out to the annual NOAC Turkey Day Race in City Park. Only this time, I had even more company than usual: my three boys came with me!
The ‘Woods of course were out there, too, and Grandma joined us as well. The boys started out strong but really struggled to complete the five-mile course. We eventually crossed the finish line after an hour and forty minutes. We weren’t dead last, but we were pretty close. There wasn’t even a photographer at the finish line anymore! I was so proud of my boys, though.
After the race, everyone scattered to their respective houses to shower and change clothes. Then we gathered at our house around noon to prepare Thanksgiving dinner. We sat down to gumbo and salad around 3pm, which is when Rory’s nose promptly started bleeding. Profusely. He FREAKED out, and it took us a long time to calm him down and get the bleeding to stop. But it eventually did. So crazy.
After dinner, Riley and I went over to Nola and Nopsi’s to visit for a bit while everyone else went on a walk to the levee. Rory rode his bike and made it there and back without any more incidents. Thank goodness. And they saw a beautiful sunset.
The next day, the ‘Woods and Grandma and Grandpa came back over to our house for a leftover gumbo dinner. Rory roped almost everyone into reading him lots of books; The Book with No Pictures was a favorite. Then on Saturday morning we all ventured down to the Quarter for beignets before the ‘Woods flew back to CA. Rory highly enjoyed the special treat; Riley just had spoonfuls of sugar. Typical.
We always love when the ‘Woods visit, although they’re never here long enough!
