Saturday, March 25 was Claire’s 7th birthday party. She actually decided to have a joint party with her school friend Sarah at Posh Paint Pub. I thought the kids would be painting pottery, but Dana set me straight and explained that they would paint a canvas instead.
The birthday girls chose to do a cat, which Riley wasn’t excited about at all. So one of the employees working the party offered to sketch something else out for him (and Colin) to paint. They did a dragon instead and were very happy. Rory refused to paint, so he hung out with Kenny instead.
Riley sat next to Alcee and got more into painting than I thought he would. I helped him mix colors when he asked to do so, but he designed his dragon himself. I smoothed edges out every now and then and guided him in a few steps but he mostly did it himself.
Once the kids were finished painting, they snacked and played until it was time for cake. Dana’s sister-in-law made adorable art-themed sugar cookies, which Rory loved. He also loved getting to see three friends from his class.
We sang “Happy Birthday” to the girls and then had cake and ice cream. While that was happening, the two party workers went around and painted everyone’s name and the year on their canvas. Such a nice touch. All of the kids got to take their works of art home with them that same day.
I’m so glad Riley ended up participating in the painting. He complained before we left, saying he didn’t even want to go. But once he got around his friends and got started, he did a great job. I loved seeing his dragon among all of the sweet, girly kitty cats!
Happy happy birthday, Claire and Sarah!
