Starfish

Two months ago, as one of his Easter presents, Nola gave Riley a bucket of bathtub toys. They are all plastic animal figures that squirt water out, like a whale, an octopus, a seal, a frog, etc.

And a purple starfish.

 

Riley is obsessed with the purple starfish. Anytime he’s in our bathroom he goes straight to his big blue plastic bucket that holds all of his bath toys, dumps it over, and searches for his starfish. I think he likes the starfish because it’s one of the smaller animals of the set, and it’s really easy for him to hold in his little hand.

 

Plus the arms are irresistible chewing objects.

When we’re playing upstairs and I haven’t closed us in his room, Riley will almost certainly seek out starfish, find him, and proceed to crawl from room to room with him firmly clutched in his hand. He doesn’t usually let starfish go very easily, even throughout his whole bath. And he also likes to hang onto starfish all through drying off and dressing for bed.
