Pensacola 2013: Days Two Through Four

Unfortunately, our first full day of vacation was rainy. Fortunately, the rain didn’t last long and we didn’t see any again until the day we left. Not too shabby!

Even though the skies looked ominous, we headed out to the beach fairly early on Sunday morning. We had just enough time to play in the sand for a bit and get drenched by a few waves before the rain started falling.

We hightailed it back to the condo and hung out inside for a few hours waiting for the rain to pass. Kate and Riley played together, Riley had lunch on the patio once the sun emerged, Kate enjoyed some yogurt, and most of us got in a nap. The perfect lazy vacation afternoon!

Monday dawned bright and breezy, so we slathered on sunscreen and headed out to the beach for some fun in the sun. (Everyone except Uncle Jeff, that is. He picked up a nasty bug and was quarantined to his room all day. Luckily, he felt much better the next morning.) Even Rory joined us…..his very first time on sand! He sure looked cute in his little bathing suit.

Then, in what would become our routine for the week, we took a break for lunch and naps and headed back out to the pool in the late afternoon. There was a young girl laying out when we were there on Monday, and Riley asked {loudly} who she was. I told him we didn’t know her, and he responded by yelling, “Come in the poo-wul, lady!” Crazy kid.

On Tuesday, in what would also become routine, Riley was an absolute pill when it came time to put bathing suits on and head outside. He always started out the days saying he wanted to stay inside. Kate, on the other hand, was much more agreeable to whatever her mother decided to do. Of course, it does help that she can’t talk yet.

However, once his bathing suit was on, sunscreen had been applied, and he was standing on the shore, all Riley wanted to do was get in the water.

And once he was in, he rarely wanted to get out. He loved swimming in the Gulf. Every time a big wave would approach us, he would yell out, “cheese and crackers!” Silly wonk potatoes.

When we finally convinced him to made him take a break from the waves, he inevitably wanted to go straight back inside. But I did manage to coerce him into laying down next to Rory for a cute brothers picture.

However, I actually got an even better shot of the two brothers on our last beach day. More to come later this week!
