A Mickey Halloween

If you have followed along with this little blog of mine for any amount of time, it should come as no surprise that my Riley-bean dressed up as Mickey for Halloween this year. He looked so stinkin’ cute. I got him dressed at Nola and Nopsi’s, and Kenny left work early to meet us there. Nopsi had even carved a Mickey pumpkin in honor of the boy!

We were also able to see Aunt E and Kate before we left for our friends’ annual Halloween party. Kate looked so cute in her Halloween dress and bib. I wonder what her mama will dress her as next year!

Kelli and Steve just moved into a new house, so we got to experience a new neighborhood for trick-or-treating. We hung around the house for about an hour before heading out to pound the pavement, mostly to make sure the kids ate something halfway nutritious before gorging themselves on sugar.

But Riley? He would have been perfectly content staying at the house in the playroom. The kid did NOT want to leave to trick-or-treat. However, Mama needed some candy, and we promised him he could play more when we got back. So, after the comical tradition of a kid group pic, off we went in search of treats.

The night started off slow, but the kids ended up with a pretty good haul. We had to work for it more than we used to, though: lots of the people right around Kelli and Steve’s new house weren’t participating in the holiday, so we had to walk farther than usual and thus stayed out longer. But Riley did really great with going up to each house and saying “trick or treat!” and then sometimes adding a “thank you” afterwards. We did have to stop him from going into the houses a few times and he refused to wear his ears halfway into the night, but that’s beside the point.

When we got back to the house, the rest of the kids dumped out their loot to see what they got, while Riley headed straight into the playroom to make good on my promise. I used cake to entice him to come out where the rest of us were, but he soon abandoned everyone again. I guess that’s what happens when a two-year-old is presented with a room full of new toys.

It was a late night, but it certainly was a fun night. We arrived home with a worn out little boy, his Mickey nose a little worse for the wear and his mouth covered in cookie crumbs. Now that’s the mark of a good Halloween.

We always like spending time with our friends, so thanks very much for hosting again, Kelli and Steve. I’m already thinking ahead to next year when I’ll have two, TWO, little boys to dress up!
