Once we arrived and checked in, we were assigned a guide who took us to our first stop: the outside areas. The new museum has an incredible outdoor space with lots of things for the kids to explore. (They really did a nice job with the whole place; I can't wait to go back and take both boys.)
Next we were led inside and upstairs to one of the main exhibit rooms. There were little houses to crawl in, a table to draw on, a whole room filled with musical instruments, a big interactive floor map of the city, and the ever popular giant bubble creator.
Then we were allowed into the area all the way in the back: Move with the River. This section consists of a 100-foot long water table representing the Mississippi River from start to finish, complete with locks, dams, drainage systems, ports, and tributaries. So. Cool.
Our last stop was downstairs: Dig into Nature. There was a sedimentation table, a nature caring + sharing station, a storytelling corner, magnetic block building tables, and more.
Once we were done with our time in the museum, we headed back outside and across a bridge to a big open green space for a picnic. We had about an hour before the bus arrived to pick up the kids and teachers and take them back to school.
The day could not have been more perfect. I'm so glad I got to experience this museum with my boy. Hopefully we'll make it back there soon so we can show Riley how awesome it is.
