Krewe of Thoth {Mardi Gras 2016}

As we have done for the past four years, we went out to see Thoth roll on the Sunday before Mardi Gras. Our friend Scott still rides, and it’s just a really fun parade. We picked up our customary Popeyes on the way and settled in at our usual spot on Henry Clay and Laurel around 11am. Nopsi came with us, and Kelli and Steve were out there with Julia and Jack. It was another beautiful day!

We killed time while waiting for the parade to start with ever popular bubbles. Kids flock to us every time every time I bring them out in public. Easiest and cheapest entertainment ever! Oh, and we ran into our friend Shelley and her two kids. Her husband rides on the same float as Scott, and they were standing right across the street from us.

It was Jackie’s last day in town, and I’m so glad she got to see Thoth before she left. The bands and marching groups were top notch, and the floats were awesome this year. The theme was “Things with Wings;” Scott was actually on a float with huge Star Wars X-wing fighter on the front of it. So cool!

When I spotted the 610 Stompers approaching, Jackie and I walked down to see my friend Fred, who is a member. We passed this guy driving a tractor on the way; he was snacking on some Teddy Grahams, which I thought was so cute.

We found Fred in the back of the pack, and Jackie got her first taste of the 610 Stompers and their motto (Ordinary Men with Extraordinary Moves), as well as their female security, the 610 Splits. The parade was stopped at this point, so we got to see Fred and company perform a couple of their routines. Amazing. And we took a couple of pics with him. Love that guy!

Oh, Thoth, how I love you. I think it was a great way to end Jackie’s marathon Mardi Gras weekend. She flew out around 6pm that evening, while we went to our typical Sunday dinner at Nola and Nopsi’s house. It was one heck of a good celebration, and I’m so glad she was here to experience it all. However, just because Jackie was gone doesn’t mean Mardi Gras was over for us….

Thanks SO much for coming in, friend; I LOVED having you here!
