Like last year, Riley received so many awesome gifts for his birthday last week. Much like Grandma and Grandpa did back in July, Nola and Nopsi decided to give Riley their gift before his party so his new toys would be spread out a bit. Nola told me months ago that she wanted to give Riley a tricycle, so that’s what he got a couple of Sundays ago. He’s not quite tall enough yet to reach the pedals, but I’m sure he’ll be zooming down the driveway in no time.
Then on his actual birthday, since we really couldn’t do anything fun on account of Isaac, both Grams and Nola gave Riley their presents. Grams gave him a Target gift card (which I had no problem spending over the weekend: Riley now has lots of new clothes and a few new toys) and a set of little Disney board books.
And since Nola couldn’t let his actual birthday pass without having something for him, Riley opened a couple of Mickey books from her. And she is insisting she keep them at her house rather than let him take them home to his. Not fair.
He sure was one happy little boy seeing all of his new books spread out before him. And he was even happier after he finished his dinner and was rewarded with a small piece of last year’s birthday cake (which was still in Nola’s outside freezer). Happy Birthday to him, indeed.
However, just because he was officially a two-year-old didn’t mean he stopped sleeping like the wonk potatoes that he is.
No worries there.
At his party on Saturday (details to be posted later this week), all of the kids crowded around him while he opened a pile of gifts everyone had brought. He got a collection of Mickey Mouse and friends stuffed dolls (which he now plays and sleeps with), a really cute monogrammed tote bag (check out my expression: I loved it), multiple trucks, a Leapster LeapPad, a special binder of song lyrics (from Grandma, of course), and many more wonderful things. He doesn’t know what to play with first when he comes downstairs in the mornings!
Kenny and I also got him a little something, just because I couldn’t not give him anything, even though I knew he’d be getting lots from our friends and family. We waited until Sunday morning to give it to him, though, once the chaos of his party had passed. One thing’s for sure: this boy loves his trucks.
Happy 2nd Birthday, my Riley-bean. You sure are loved!
