Last Saturday morning, our house quickly became filled with party guests: 20 adults and 11 kids, all here to celebrate Riley-bean’s second birthday. We rearranged the living and dining rooms for the party, and the kids had so much fun running around the wide open space. Riley, however, wasn’t quite sure what to think of all of his friends taking over his house. It was pretty funny to watch.
After letting the young ones burn off some energy, we settled them down at the two tables in the living room to do the activity we had planned. We ordered classic wooden cars from Etsy and got markers and stickers for the kids to decorate them with, and then they all took their cars home as a party favor. I wasn’t sure how the activity would go over, but I think all of the kids had fun with it. After finishing his own, Riley even helped Aunt E decorate a car for Kate!
Some of the kids were so into decorating their cars that they didn’t want to stop for lunch. They all eventually perfected their creations, and I cleaned up the markers and stickers so everyone had room to eat. On the other hand, Uncle Jeff had no problem filling his plate and showing his first bite to me. What else are little brothers for? Love ya, J. :)
Before we knew it, cake time rolled around. It was obviously just what the already hyped up kids needed…..sugar! No separate smash cake this year for Riley-bean, but he did get to sit on the table, blow out his two candles, and then taste the yummy birthday cake that his daddy lovingly made.
After everyone sung “Happy Birthday,” I had to steal Nopsi’s camera to get a picture of our view from behind the table, just like I did last year. Once again, there were so many awesome friends and family members smiling back at us. We’re so grateful all of you could come to celebrate with us. It was only right to reward you with cake, especially since the kids had been waiting so patiently. :)
I am so glad everything worked out for us to keep the party on its original date (which, coincidentally, was Ita’s actual birthday). A few of my friends actually thanked me for giving them something fun to do outside of their own houses, which they had essentially been stuck in since Tuesday. We were only too happy to provide a reason to get together and celebrate. Happy Second Birthday, my sweet Riley-bean…..Mama and Daddy love you so much!
Oh, and by the way, I am taking Riley to his birthday lunch at Gott Gourmet and to bounce again today, so look for that recap sometime next week. I figured better late than never!
