Pumpkin Patch

Earlier this week, Riley and I took a little field trip to a pumpkin patch at a local school. I’m not sure when this tradition became popular (I don’t remember going every year as a kid), but I’m glad that it did. It was a fun little afternoon outing for the two of us. Riley had such a good time that I’m actually tempted to bring him back!

And what a difference a year makes. Riley had so much fun exploring the patch: he was on his feet and walking all throughout the rows of pumpkins the whole time we were there. In fact, sometimes it was hard to keep up with him!

Kenny was working and couldn’t join us this time, but we did meet up with Aunt Erin, as well as Karen, Molly, and Nathan. Molly played the role of the oldest child perfectly, taking Riley’s hand and walking (or crawling) around the patch with him. And it was so sweet when Nathan gave Riley a hug. Even though they’re all different ages, I hope those three stay close for many years to come.

I was so grateful Aunt Erin was able to meet us there. I figured she would love watching Riley gallivant among all of the pumpkins (which she did), but she also was a big help to me. She did her very best to get the boy to look at the camera so I could properly document the trip. I would not have gotten nearly as many good pics if she hadn’t been there. Thanks, Erin!

However, the two of us agreed it was time to vacate the area once Riley found (and started chewing on) a loose stem, complete with mushy pumpkin pulp attached to it. Yuck. Boys will be boys, I suppose.

Special thanks to Colleen for making his cute pumpkin shirt and to Nola for buying it for him!
