Rory went back to his PK4 classroom on January 4 after a long holiday break. They jumped right back into learning!
During the third nine weeks, they learned about the letters R (rockets, robots, rainbows, and rocks), E (engines, eggs, elephants, envelopes), B (balloons, butterflies, bees, bubbles), L (ladybugs, Louisiana, lambs, lights), K (koalas, kangaroos, kites, kings), U (USA, umbrellas), G (garbage truck, gumballs, goats, gorillas), W (watermelon, weather, worms), X (X marks the spot, xylophone, x-rays), and V (van, vest, volcanos, veterinarians, vegetables); the numbers 11-15; and the colors white, purple, and orange.
They read lots of new stories and learned six new sight words: have, big, go, up, where, and play. They’re also practicing their handwriting more. Rory has gotten really good at writing his name!
In reading they completed 3 new units: Our Neighborhood, Transportation, and Animals.
In math they talked about patterns, measurement (short/long, area, capacity, tall/taller/tallest, before/after relating to time), and graphing.
In religion they discussed the Magi visiting Jesus, baptism, following Jesus, Jesus as the light of the world, forgiveness, Lent, and miracles.
They also discussed the new year, signs of winter, and dental health and participated in Dr. Seuss’s Read Across America.
They did lots of art projects, including making snowmen, snowflakes, valentine decorations, Mardi Gras kingcakes, and various St. Patrick’s Day crafts.
They had a special remote control toy day and had a few fun meetings with their big buddies, including reading with them and eating together during a fun Leprechaun lunch!
Rory and Colin also surprised their big buddies Anthony and Wesley with cookies when they each got into their high school of choice!
They did a whole unit on Louisiana, culminating in a super fun lagniappe day with jambalaya tasting, live crawfish races, and dancing to Cajun music. They also had an awesome time during the PK4 parade and with their mamas at Tea for Two.
During Catholic Schools Week at the end of January the whole school enjoyed a crazy hat day, a Catholic school t-shirt day, and a pajama day.
I can’t believe they’re already in the middle of their final stretch of this school year. They only have five weeks left until summer officially begins for them!
