Rory’s final nine weeks of PK3 went by super fast. Their themes were “Wonderful Weather,” “Seasons,” “Going New Places,” “All about Bugs,” “Trying New Things,” “I Can Do It!,” and “Moving On: We’re Big Now!”
They learned about letters Vv through Zz and reviewed all letters Aa-Zz and numbers 1-20.
They explored temperatures and how to dress for different kinds of weather and discussed landforms (mountains, hills, deserts) and water, and people and their environment. They discussed the position words on, behind, and under. They also talked about using their senses, children around the world, and animals in the zoo.
In math they learned about repeating patterns and how to recognize and create patterns. And they did some subtraction by asking how many are left. They also explored weight (light and heavy objects).
In religion they learned that God cares for us and all He has made, four different Bible stories, Palm Sunday and the story of Easter, and after death there is life. They also listened to the stories of Zaccheaus, Ruth, and Jacob’s Ladder.
They did many projects and activities, including charting the weather, wind experiments, marble painting, handprint butterflies, pom pom painting Easter eggs, making ladybugs and bumblebees, jelly bean graphing, yucky and yummy food tasting, forming letters with playdough, and subtracting with goldfish.
They did a special Mother’s Day project with some of their dads at the end of April. So glad Kenny could be there and help Rory and his friends!
They also worked on tracing their names and practicing with scissors. And they looked back at new experiences this year and compared what they knew at the beginning versus what they knew at the end.
They had to shelter in their hallway during a bad storm on May 12, but Mrs. Claire kept them entertained with a book!
Rory’s PK3 journal came home with him on May 15. I loved looking through it and seeing what he drew! Mrs. Claire would tape a piece of paper to the classroom wall and then walk the kids through how to draw whatever they were learning about on a particular day. So cool; some of Rory’s drawings were quite impressive!
On May 16 all of the room moms were honored at morning assembly. Rory got to come and present me with a gift from his class. So cute!
Rory also brought home his end of the year gift from Mrs. Claire and Ms. Lisa that afternoon: a beach bucket filled with goodies. He was so excited to show it to me!
I am so grateful that Rory had two wonderful teachers for his first year at SCR. We love Mrs. Claire and Ms. Lisa so much!
Recap of Rory’s last day coming up next!

Those happy, proud faces are so different from his first day! Remember when he thought his first day was his ONLY day of preK3?
