Saturday, May 6 was a super busy day for us. We had four separate events to attend: one in the morning, two in the afternoon, and one in the evening. It was a marathon of a day, but we did it all!
Our first event was at SCR. Molly Mae, the 4-year-old granddaughter of one of the kindergarten assistant teachers, Mrs. Mary Eileen, was born with a very rare kidney disease called ARPKD. Molly received a kidney and a liver transplant sometime in the fall, and she unfortunately contracted an infection a few months later. The whole school came together to support her and her family all year long. The culmination was a fundraiser at school on May 6, with food, games, and an auction, with all proceeds going directly to Molly Mae’s family. It was a beautiful day, and we were so happy to show our support by attending.
Word reached us later in the day that Molly Mae lost her fight with her disease that same afternoon, on what forever will be known as Molly Mae Day. Rest in peace, sweet girl. #CelebrateHopeAlways
From school we headed over to Bakery Village in the Irish Channel for a crawfish boil. My 20-year high school reunion took place later that night, and one of my classmates graciously offered to host a boil for our class in the afternoon. The turnout was small on account of everyone’s family schedules being nuts, but I’m glad we made it. I got to see some people I hadn’t in a long time, the kids got to play with live crawfish, and we got lunch out of it.
We left the boil and drove straight to Kate’s school to see her fair dance performance. She was so excited to see us in the crowd in front of the stage, and she did a great job doing her “Jungle Book” medley dance. We hung around for a little bit after, treating the boys to a bouncing session in the inflatable area, before finally heading back home.
Reunion recap coming up next week. Hint: it was SO much fun. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
