Rory’s last day of PK3 was Thursday, May 18. Kenny was supposed to fly back in town from a conference late on Wednesday night; however, long story short, his flight ended up getting cancelled. He tried really hard to make it home in time, but he got stuck and missed Rory’s closing ceremony. So it was just the two boys and their mama.
Rory hasn’t grown a ton since August, but he sure has changed. I have loved seeing him blossom and come even more out of his shell this past school year!
I dropped both boys off and went to get a seat in the cafeteria. The four PK3 teachers had it all set up and ready to go; it looked really great in there. It was fun walking around before the kids arrived, checking out their special end of the year posters and boxes of artwork the teachers had set out.
Here’s what was in Rory’s handiwork box!
I grabbed Riley from his classroom so he could see his little brother officially finish his first year at SCR. The littles started filing in just after 8:30am; they all looked so cute and excited. They had been practicing their closing program for weeks and were ready to do it for real!
Lisa told me they wanted Rory to have a speaking part in the program but that he got really shy when they were “auditioning.” So he got to hold the flag during the Pledge of Allegiance instead. He did a great job!
All of the kids put on a fantastic performance, singing “God Bless America,” “ABC song,” “Once I Caught a Fish Alive,” “If I Were a Butterfly,” “I Had a Little Turtle,” and “I Am a Pizza.”
After they were done, Mrs. Claire and Ms. Maggie thanked everyone for an amazing year, we took one last class pic, and then the kids scattered to find their families and have cookies and muffins. They were done!
We gave the teachers their presents (including a really awesome collaborative gift from our whole class to Claire and Lisa) and then took lots more pictures. It was hard to believe the year had come to an end.
We ran into Mrs. Jean on our way out, and I’m so glad we did. She retired at the end of this school year; we’re going to miss her lots!
And, believe it or not, these two will be ruling the school in this big kid hallway one day.
I took Rory to Toys ‘R Us so he could pick out some end-of-the-year prizes, and then we went to Chick-Fil-A for a celebratory lunch. I really loved getting to know a whole new group of kids that Rory now calls his friends. PK4 is going to be just as great!
Riley’s last two first grade recaps coming up next!
