2016 SCR Oyster Festival, Part One

Ah, the school fair. Three days when we practically live at SCR, no one gets naps, we spend lots of money, and we have a great time.

Dana and I were responsible for decorating one of the PK3 booths, so we dropped the kids off on Friday morning and met in the front parking lot to get started. Mrs. Claire’s class was assigned the T-Shirt Hoopla booth. And since this year’s fair theme was “Shuckey Goes to Pontchartrain Beach,” we went simple and decorated the booth with paper plate beach balls that the kids fingerpainted and that I put their pictures on. We also found a great poster to put Claire’s and Lisa’s faces on. I think our booth turned out really cute.

Riley’s class booth turned out great too. Katie and Kristen used the kids’ silhouettes to create personalized coin decorations.

Dana and I also helped PK3 and 1st grade with their last fair dance practices that morning. They all did so great!

The boys got out of school that day at 11:30am. We went home for lunch and to have a quiet afternoon. They ate an early dinner, and then we met Kenny at SCR after work. We were smart and got megabands for both boys this year, so they started riding rides almost as soon as we got there. It was a really nice night. And Riley finally got to go on the Fireball this year!!!

We even busted out the silly string at one point. The kids had a great battle.

We also discovered a brand new ride at the Oyster Festival this year: the Rock It. More about this later. But let’s just say it was awesome.

Dana and I turned the kids over to the guys at 8:30pm and checked in to work the Food Tickets booth. Bag of Donuts was playing, there was a good crowd, and we started celebrating my birthday early. I even ran into an old high school friend. Such a fun night!

The next day was my birthday, and as we were leaving the house to head back to SCR, we discovered a birthday surprise for me in the front yard. Dana came to the house unbeknownst to us at midnight to put up a “Happy Birthday Courtney” sign. So fun!

We had to be at school pretty early on Saturday since Rory’s class fair dance performance was first. Everyone met behind the cafeteria, and Dana and I got them all dressed in their costumes. Since they danced to “Hound Dog” by Elvis, we made red scarves for the boys and gold scarves for the girls, Elvis-style. They all came dressed in jeans and white t-shirts, and we also gave them sunglasses. They looked so cute.

We got them up on stage, passed out their guitars, and jumped right into their dance. They did a fantastic job!

We had about two hours to kill before Riley’s dance, so the boys played games and rode rides until we had to meet Riley’s class. They each won a sword and played paintball, I took a selfie with Shuckey and got covered with silly string, and we all had fun listening to the band and trying our hands at the nickel slide.

Plus we saw a really cool cloud shaped like a feather while we were in line for the Ferris Wheel.

Lots more fair fun coming up next!
