There are two big festivals that occur on Memorial Day weekend in New Orleans: Greek Fest and NOWFE. Seven of us went to the opening day of Greek Fest. Nopsi and I took the three kids out there when the doors opened at 5pm on Friday, and Uncle Jeff and Kenny met us after work.
It was a really nice evening, and we had a great time. The kids played on the bounce houses; they ate a Greek dinner of feta fries, gyro, and calamari (even Kate tried everything!); Rory polished off Kenny’s beer; and they split a baklava sundae before we left.
They also had a blast dancing to Greek music.
Saturday of Memorial Day weekend was the second and final Grand Tasting of NOWFE (New Orleans Wine and Food Experience). Nola and Nopsi go just about every year, but I hadn’t been in a long time. I bought two tickets back in January, and Uncle Jeff ended up taking the second one. The four of us, plus Aunt Dede and Uncle Dean, had a great afternoon drinking wine and tasting food from area chefs.
We even ran into an old grammar school friend of mine, Kelly. It was great catching up with her for a bit. She swears she’s coming to Baking Day in December; we’ll see if it actually happens!
We went to the Italian Barrel for dinner afterwards, even though none of us needed anything else to drink and most of us didn’t need anything else to eat. But we went anyway! The gnocchi was fabulous.
And as if we hadn’t had enough, the four of us went to QP and James’s place after dinner.
I spent Sunday laying around the house wishing my stomach felt normal.
But at least I didn’t have a headache: two Advil and a couple of shots of pickle juice before bed made sure of that.
Don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it. Totally works.
Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!

It's a shame we just don't have any fun in this family.
