Well, it wasn’t technically a field day since they’re a bit too young for that, and it was too chilly for the water activities they were supposed to do, but the PK3 students had a super fun day last Friday.
They were only at school for three hours and played outside for most of that time. While the older kids were participating in their actual Field Day at a nearby playground, the wee ones were doing all sorts of fun things the teachers organized for them. And the parents were invited to come watch/help.
There were seven stations of activities, and the kids traveled around in groups and played at each one for about 10 minutes. Riley had fun at a few of them but then he got more interested in pushing his favorite dump truck around than doing anything else. C’est la vie.
Riley did get into the bubbles, though, as did everyone else. Even all of the parent volunteers had fun at the bubble station. Solution poured into crawfish trays with flyswatters to dip in and wave around to create lots of bubbles. So cool!
After the kids had gone through all of the stations, they gathered in a group and were told what was next on the agenda. Ms. Amanda had brought in her cute snoball cart so the kids could have a sweet treat after playing so hard. Riley of course chose green.
They also got to munch on some nachos in honor of Cinco de Mayo. Riley only ate the chips but did try one bite of the cheese. Ole!
After their sugary and cheesy snacks, the kids were released back into the play yard to run off some more energy. Riley and Jack of course went straight to the slide in the mulch with the beloved dump truck.
After ten minutes or so, I dragged Riley away from the mulch, he gave Ms. Amanda a quick hug and told her to have a good weekend, and then we left. We ran by the grocery to pick up milk, grabbed Rory from Nola and Nopsi’s, stopped by the house to change the boys, and went to Chick-Fil-A to meet Claire and her mom Dana for lunch.
Then the three of us came back home and collapsed. What a day.
Next Friday is Riley’s very last day of his PK3 year. I am going to try very hard not to cry too much.
