Postpartum Check-up

Yesterday morning was my postpartum check-up with my doctor. I can’t believe six weeks has gone by! Wow.

Everything is just fine with me. My blood pressure is great (122/82), I am two pounds UNDER what I was on my very first prenatal visit (!), and I am all healed. No restrictions anymore, although she did tell me not to go right out and run a marathon. No problem.

Riley came with me to the appointment, and all of the girls in the office ooh-ed and ahh-ed over him, as did my doc. He certainly is a handsome boy!

First Haircut

With all of the hair he had on his head when he was born, it’s no wonder we had to give Riley his first haircut when he was just 6 weeks old! We cut it a little bit by his ears and along the back of his neck because it was just getting too long. Kenny used the sideburn trimmer on his electric razor, and it worked pretty well, as did our placement of Riley fully clothed in his bathtub for the entire process (right before his bath on Sunday night). Granted, it’s not the best or most perfect haircut in history, but we accomplished what we wanted to, and Riley does look better!

I’ve also recently discovered that he has developed pretty bad cradle cap. Yuck! I hate seeing those nasty flakes in his gorgeous hair! Some of the flakes are pretty big, too, and they stem from multiple patches on his head. I hope it doesn’t stick around too long, but in the meantime we’ll do our best to control it by shampooing really well during his baths and combing it out afterwards. Please let me know if anyone has any better suggestions!

LSU and Saints Football

Oh, football. It’s been quite a ride already this year. LSU’s season has been haphazard at best (I still can’t believe the Tigers are 6-0), and the Saints seem to be falling apart (especially after the loss to the Cardinals on Sunday). Riley is still sleeping through most of the important games; hopefully that will change soon! He did work on tummy time at the very end of the LSU game on Saturday, but it didn’t last too long. Oh, well. At least he is sporting gameday attire!IMG_3729   IMG_3736IMG_3738IMG_3739IMG_3743 IMG_3746

Finally….a REAL bath

Instead of barely any water in his tub and me having to hold a towel over his stump to make sure it stayed dry, Riley was finally able to have a real bath on Thursday night. We filled up his tub, put some rubber duckies in it, and gave it a go. He seemed to enjoy the bath: no crying at all! And I’m not sure if he was so worn out from his efforts to get rid of that pesky stump or if he was exhausted after his bath, but he slept for TEN hours straight Thursday night. And he followed that up by sleeping for nine hours on Friday night. Kenny and I are loving it!

Ding dong, the cord is gone!

As I was changing Riley’s diaper this afternoon (one of many!), I accidentally caught part of the diaper on his umbilical cord without realizing it. I pulled the diaper towards me to bundle it up and throw it away, and the cord came with it. Hallelujah! It’s finally history! And his newly exposed belly button is so cute, as is the little smile in the picture below. :)

Duck Project

We finally finished the project I came up with for the rubber duckies from my shower. Kenny did all of the work, and it turned out great! He cut a big “R” out of wood, spray-painted it blue and then glued the rubber duckies onto the wood. Then he hung it on the wall above the glider in Riley’s room.

I think we’re done with the creative art projects for awhile, but they have been lots of fun to do!

Smile? No. Sneeze? Yes!

Riley was so good last night during his normally fussy hours (perhaps because he slept ALL DAY), and he was even starting to show hints of a smile. Of course the second I turned on the camera to try and capture it he wouldn’t cooperate, but we did manage to get his cute little sneezes on film. The video is a tad long, but the sneezes come right at the end. He’s been sneezing a lot ever since we brought him home, and he almost always does two in a row, sometimes three. Hope you enjoy!

Weekend Update

Lots of happenings this weekend…..

On Friday Jeff and Becky came into town to stay with us overnight on their way to New Orleans. Becky wanted to take Riley with them when they left Saturday morning, but Kenny and I decided to keep him.

On Saturday morning Kenny headed to Baton Rouge. My brother had called a couple of nights earlier and offered us tickets to the LSU game against Tennessee. For a number of reasons I knew I couldn’t go, but I convinced Ken to take the afternoon off and go enjoy the game. He met his dad on campus and they used the tickets. And even though they really didn’t deserve to, the Tigers won the game!

On Sunday morning Kenny stayed at home with Riley while I took some time for myself. He told me since he got to go to the game I should go get a massage. Sold! I thoroughly enjoyed my hour-long session and am already dreaming of when I can go again. I arrived back at home in time for the Saints game, which our boys won. Who Dat, baby!

We all took naps after the game and then decided the glorious weather was too pretty for us to stay inside, so we headed out for a family stroll around the neighborhood. There were lots of kids out playing football in their front yards….I can’t quite imagine Riley that big yet! Our walk was so nice and a great end to a fun weekend. I hope this weather is here to stay!

A couple other things of note: Kenny weighed Riley last night and he is up to 11 pounds. Also, Riley slept for almost 8 hours straight last night! Fabulous!

Painting Project

My dad and I worked on an art project for Riley’s room when Kenny and I were in Houston last weekend. I came up with the idea of spelling out Riley’s name with each letter on a separate canvas and hanging them on the wall above his crib. Since my dad loves to paint, all I had to do was get the canvases I wanted, and he provided the paint and the expertise. We spread all of our supplies out on their dining room table on Saturday afternoon and had a finished product a few hours later. I was a little worried since we used much bolder colors than the theme of the room, but it actually works. Kenny hung the canvases up in Riley’s room last night, and they look so great!

Thanks so much for helping me, Dad; I really enjoyed working together with you on this project. It turned out exactly how I wanted it to!
