We did make sure to see Perry, who finally got to meet Dana's twin that he's heard so much about. And, precious heart that he is, he got us into the Shell tent for the day, which meant free snacks, beer, and, most importantly, clean bathrooms. Holla.
Throughout the course of the day, we saw Honey Island Swamp Band, Voice of the Wetlands All-Stars (including Tab Benoit), Wayne Toups, and Chris Stapleton. We also caught a little bit of Andrew Hall's Society Brass Band, Greg Stafford's Jazz Hounds, Herbert McCarver and the Pin Stripe Brass Band, Cha Wa, the Crocodile Gumboot Dancers, and Gary Clark, Jr. Lots of variety, which was awesome.
And the food. We had cochon de lait poboys, crawfish Monica, Creole's stuffed bread, coffee ice pop (SO good), mango freeze, pao de queijo (Brazilian cheese bread), and a plate of ropa vieja (braised steak) with yucca fries and chimichurri dipping sauce. It was all delicious. I also brought Jeff a yakiniku (garlic ribeye) poboy to him out at the St. Philip fair on my way home. He was so grateful, and I got to taste it and hear some of the Molly Ringwalds. Great way to end the day!
Jazz Fest, I love you. Until next year!
