School Days: K Fourth Nine Weeks {Rory}

Rory had a great last nine weeks of kindergarten. His final report card was stellar. The only things he needs to work on are his handwriting (great) and knowing his phone number and the Our Father prayer, but he did improve on working neatly and carefully. Kenny and I are so proud of him.

In ELA, they learned about /a/, /i/, /o/, and /u/ long vowel sounds and magic e's. They also learned about sentences, adjectives, and pronouns. And they learned 8 new sight words (help, too, has, play, where, look, good, who). They had a few more spelling tests and continued practicing their reading. Rory met his reading goal of 100 books for the year!

In math, they learned about composing and decomposing numbers 11-19, basic addition and subtraction, data and graphing, and greater than/less than/equal to.

In religion, they learned about Lent and the Stations of the Cross, Palm Sunday, He has risen, and Mary.

They completed two fun art projects, one for the gala auction (Nopsi made an awesome crawfish table!) and one for Mother's Day (Kenny got to help with this one). They also made a special kindergarten memories book. Rory's favorite memory of kindergarten was the QU Wedding.

They had a few more mystery readers, learned how to make personal pizzas by following a recipe, and did one last experiment in STEM/science: they built a raft for an Easter peep to float on.

Rory earned two Fun Bucks this quarter and got two dress down days. One was in March for being a sweet friend, and the other was for great behavior one day in May. My sweet boy. There were no issues with his conduct at all this quarter.

March 26 was SCR Reads Day; they read books outside with their 6th grade buddies. And on April 17 they had an Easter egg hunt and an Easter party.

On May 1 Kristin and I conspired with Mrs. Ceci to throw Mrs. Allison a surprise baby shower. The theme was "Ready to Pop!" Kristin made individual bags of popcorn, and we had juice pouches and white chocolate covered pretzel rods. The kids all gave homemade cards to Allison, and they got to vote whether they thought she would have a boy or a girl. (She ended up having a baby girl on June 13!) And we gave diapers and wipes to the second-time mama. She was so surprised; it was a really cute little event.

During morning assembly on May 7 all of the room mothers were recognized for their service throughout the year. I loved being able to help out in Mrs. Allison's classroom again!

May 15 was their last full day of kindergarten. They each got to bring in a board game to play with their friends. (Rory brought a pop-o-matic game.)

Kristin and I stopped by the classroom that afternoon to give out some special end of the year gifts. The kids all got colorful stuffed graduation bears, and Allison and Ceci each got a bucket full of gift cards to their favorite places and two packs of thank you notes. So fun delivering all of that to them!

The kids also brought home their memory books and journals this day. I loved looking through both of these and seeing all of Rory's writings and drawings from throughout the year!

That kid, and those faces. LOVE HIM SO.
Thanks, PC, for another great school term recap. Seeing what the boys are learning is ... educational! And it's so wonderful that you are giving of your own time to be such a big part of it. Your boys will always remember that.
