Summer Days, Part Two

Our summer days are still going strong. We’ve done lots of things to keep us busy during the last month, both inside and out, at home and away. Here’s what we’ve been up to!

Claire and Colin came over for lunch the Thursday of Vacation Bible School week. Then the next week, while we were at the beach, Diana and Dana got their three kids together for a playdate at City Park. They sent a picture for me to show Riley, saying his girls (and Colin!) missed him.

The week after we got home, we got all of the kids together on Thursday afternoon. They played at our house for a bit before we took a field trip. We went to Reginelli’s for dinner, where the kids made their own pizzas! It was lots of fun, even though Riley was whiny and only wanted to pick the pepperoni off of his pizza. However, I had to keep reminding myself that he had had a super busy week spending time with his cousins. He was one tired wonk potatoes.

The week after that, we took another field trip, this time for lunch. We went to the theater to see Inside Out, and the kids feasted on a special meal of popcorn, nachos, gummies, Skittles, and root beer. Their idea of heaven, for sure. And the movie was really cute. Riley has said a few times that he liked it better than Big Hero 6.

Our next summer adventure was a road trip to Jambalaya Park in Gonzales. There were 9 kids (Riley, Rory, Kate, Claire, Colin, Alcee, Julia, Jack, and Philip) and 5 moms (Erin, Diana, Dana, Kelli, Denise, and me). We were there for over 3 hours and everyone had a great time.

Shockingly, neither of my boys fell asleep on the way home, even though Rory looked like he could have. They snacked on veggie sticks and looked at all of the big trucks on the road instead.

We have also done quite a few things on our own this past month. There has been lots of Lego time, of course, while Rory stacks blocks and rolls trucks in Riley’s room. Riley got a couple of cool new Star Wars sets from Nola that he put together, and he even built a special princess just for Claire.

We’ve also made silly faces…..

…..and had a picnic dinner in front of Dragons 2 one night.

And the three cousins have spent a few mornings/afternoons swimming together at Nola and Nopsi’s and then playing inside afterwards.

Kenny and I have also had some summer fun of our own: he went to the racetrack at lunch one day, and I got to see Kevin (and Kirk!) at Mr. B’s. Nola also cashed in her Mother’s Day gift: Uncle Jeff and I took her out to eat at Purloo. Great space and tasty food.

We have some fun things lined up throughout the next few weeks, but I know the first day of school will be here before I know it. I can’t believe there are only four more weeks left of summer!

Is it wrong that I’m kind of excited about that?
