One morning last week I was browsing though my “Kid Projects” Pinterest board and found something I thought Riley would enjoy doing. So we made rainbow pasta for lunch!
Riley picked out six different colors to use. Once the pasta had been cooked, rinsed, and cooled, I divided it into six Ziploc bags and set him up at the kitchen counter, with Rory looking on in his highchair.
Both boys got to squeeze out 20 drops of food coloring into a few of the bags, which I then added a tablespoon of water to and sealed. Then they got to mash it all around so the color would soak into the noodles.
Once all six colors had been mixed into the pasta and the bags had sat on the counter for a couple of minutes, our rainbow was revealed!
The next step was to dump all of the pasta into a colander for one final rinse and mix. Riley was a big help during this part.
The rinsing was necessary to get rid of the excess food coloring, but it did wash off some of the vibrancy of the pasta. However, we still had quite a colorful bowl of pasta when all was said and done.
Rory refused to try it, but Riley ate rainbow pasta for lots of meals the rest of the week and has already asked if we can do it again.
Pinterest win!
