Riley was off of school on Monday and so was Aunt E, so we decided to take the kiddos to the aquarium. We’ve gotten a lot of use out of our membership lately, and I’m loving that!
This was Rory’s first trip to the aquarium, and I actually dressed him in the same onesie Riley wore for his first trip to see the fish, all the way back in May 2011. Wow.
There is a lot of construction going on at the aquarium, both inside and out, and I was very sad to discover that the Caribbean tunnel exhibit is currently closed for renovations. But we had a good time nonetheless.
We skipped the Amazon altogether in favor of seeing the penguins being fed. And of course we had to pay a visit to the parakeets. Rory kept trying to reach out and touch the ones that landed on our feeding stick. Aunt E freaked out a bit when the birds got a little too friendly with her, and I just happened to capture one of her reactions. So funny.
There is also a new exhibit in the space “Adventure Island” used to occupy, called “Geaux Fish.” It’s all about Louisiana’s thriving fishing industry with interactive areas and play spaces for kids and small exhibits stocked with local creatures like blue crab and crawfish. Very well-done!
We ended our trip in the Gulf exhibit, which is my favorite. I used to love going to sit in there before the aquarium opened when it was completely empty and quiet. So peaceful.
A quick lunch at Felipe’s afterwards and then we headed home. Thanks for coming with us, Aunt E and Kate…..we had a fun time with y’all!
