We stopped by Nola and Nopsi’s house after school on Friday and the brothers played together. Riley also had to finish his lunch before he could have a snack.
I took Riley to a classmate’s (Cameron) birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese on Saturday morning. That is a loud place.
We went to Josh and Amy’s house on Saturday afternoon to watch the Saints game with our friends. They unfortunately lost to the Seahawks.
On Sunday morning we took a long family walk around our neighborhood. Then when Rory woke up from his morning nap we decided to spend the rest of the day outside at the zoo. We picked up Dat Dog for lunch (yum) and joined lots of other locals with the same idea as us.
We headed straight to the playground area with our grub and had a little picnic. We also lucked out and got to see the giraffes being fed. They were so close to us, and both boys seemed to love seeing them munch on carrots. Riley later said they were his favorite part of the day.
Both boys passed out in the car about 2.2 seconds after we drove out of the parking lot. They even slept through our stop at the library.
Sunday evening did not go at all how Kenny and I had thought it would. I noticed earlier on in the day that Riley’s right eye looked red and goopy, and I immediately thought he could have pinkeye. It didn’t get better as the day went on, so Kenny suggested we take him to an urgent care facility.
We headed there after the library, and Riley woke up in a supremely foul mood right after I had finished filling out all of the paperwork. We made it through the visit with the doctor, but only just barely. He was very unhappy and a little scared. He even reached out for my hand to hold when the doctor was examining him. Sweet boy.
The doc confirmed pinkeye and sent us home with a prescription for antibiotic eye drops that we are to use three times a day for a week. Luckily, the drops worked really fast; the redness and the goopiness went away very quickly. He had to stay home from school on Monday but was back with Ms. Amanda on Tuesday.
Minus the Saints’ loss and the unfortunate pinkeye setback, it really was a nice weekend. Glorious weather, spending time with family and friends, and making memories with my three boys.
Doesn’t get much better than that.
