Last Friday, Riley’s school honored all of the students’ grandparents. Grandma, Grandpa, and Nola attended the day’s events while Nopsi was at home with Kate, whom they watch every other Friday. There was a mass that morning (during which Riley was apparently extremely restless and not well-behaved at all…..glad I didn’t have to deal with that) and then everyone adjourned to the classrooms to see where the students spend most of their time at school.
Once back in the PK3 building after mass, they were shown Riley’s place on his classroom’s rug (the truck square, of course), treated to a class performance of a special song just for grandparents, and given a demonstration of how they use the Promethean board (Riley was called on first to play a matching game).
They were also gifted a handprint craft the kids made just for their grandparents. Both Grandma and Nola each got one. Very sweet.
Riley also got a special gift from Grandma that day: a green monkey, in honor of his two favorite colors. She found it at Pier One of all places and decided she just couldn’t wait until Christmas to give it to him.
After the classroom visits, a reception was held in the gym, with donuts and coffee provided and a photographer present for pictures. However, the place was apparently an absolute madhouse, so they grabbed a donut for Riley and hightailed it out of there. The grandparents were allowed to check the kids out early, so Riley left with Grandma and Grandpa and we all met up for lunch at Bravo. Even Nopsi and Kate joined us!
This particular meal was also Rory’s first time sitting up in a highchair like a big boy…..although he didn’t last very long in it. He can’t quite sit up completely on his own, so he much preferred being held.
I wish I had gotten a picture of Riley with all four of his grandparents, but, as you can probably imagine, our meal was slightly chaotic and I never got the chance. But I am so glad three of them could attend the celebration at his school. I was actually a little jealous that they got to see him in his element…..I wanted to go too!
Thanks, Grandma, Grandpa, and Nola, for being there with Riley on this special day. Nopsi, hopefully you can go next year!
