And Yet Again {Birthday Farm Trip}

Even though we just saw them over Thanksgiving, Aunt Debbie, Nicholas, and James flew into town on New Year’s Eve and stayed for a week. They came to our house on NYE to have dinner before Kenny and I took Riley to our friends’ party. The boys opened a few belated Christmas gifts and then went out back to shoot some fireworks before heading across the river to see the big dueling barge fireworks display. Riley was so excited to see Nicholas!

We saw them again the following day when we went to Baton Rouge to check out Uncle Steve and Aunt Jaimi’s beautiful new house. A few days went by and then, only two weeks after our last trip, Riley and I found ourselves back at the farm yet again.

Nicholas and James absolutely love visiting the farm when they’re here. Since this trip happened to coincide with James’ 8th birthday on January 4th, Debbie decided they would spend two nights camping out in honor of the birthday boy. The three of them, plus Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Steve, and Zac, went up on Thursday afternoon to get the party started.

Kenny actually joined the campers on Friday after work but Riley and I didn’t make the trip up there until Saturday morning. It was pretty chilly, especially because we didn’t see the sun at all, but the rain held off and we had a great day.

The boys had some fireworks leftover from New Year’s, so they shot the rest of them before we left. Riley thought they were a little too loud, though.

We left to go home in the late afternoon after a fun-filled day. All the running around Riley did with his cousins sure did tire the boy out: it wasn’t long before he was passed out in his carseat.

The three visitors left early the following morning to head back to California. It was so great to spend some time with them, especially so soon after we spent a whole week in Orlando together. However, I’m not sure Riley will like having to wait so long to see Nicholas again; the smile on his face when he first saw him on NYE was so stinkin’ cute.

Debbie and I may have to set up a weekly FaceTime date…..
