Two Sundays ago, after our mini road trip to splash at Jambalaya Park, Grandma and Grandpa came over to the house to give Riley his birthday present. They decided to get him a water table, and Grandma thought it would be best if he could play with it throughout the summer instead of waiting until the end of August.
I had picked out a Little Tikes pirate ship table, and Riley was presented with the big box after his nap. We pulled out all the pieces and set up the main part inside before taking the table out into the backyard to fill it.
While Kenny, Grandma, and Grandpa worked to assemble all of the features of the ship, Riley dove right in and tested out the water.
Slowly but surely, the pirate ship took shape, with an anchor, a bow, a wheel, a water cannon, a mast with flag and crow’s nest, a sail, and even a slide.
Grandma checked with me first before purchasing the table, to make sure I wouldn’t mind having to be outside when Riley wanted to play with it. While I appreciated the sentiment, I also knew this was a good present for him to have right now. He loves being outside, and the table allows him to keep a little cooler while playing. His face below says it all!
On the morning of the 4th of July last Wednesday, Kenny and I took Riley on a loooong walk, and we all arrived back at the house supremely hot and sweaty. We rehydrated, and then while Kenny stayed inside to make lunch, I took Riley back out to play with his pirate ship for a bit. I stripped him down to his diaper and moved the ship into the shade of the back porch. Once again, he had so much fun and didn’t even want to come in for lunch.
Thank you, Grandma and Grandpa, for the fun early birthday present. Come back and play anytime!
