Riley had a great last quarter of second grade. He continued to do very well in all of his subjects and ended the year with only one B, in handwriting. But he can now write in cursive! We are so proud of him.
Once again, Riley crushed his AR goal and got 19.8 points in the last quarter, mostly thanks to scoring 14 points on the quiz for the first Harry Potter book. And his reading fluency and comprehension increased throughout the school year. He’s right where he should be, and that makes me so proud, especially considering he went into the year firmly stating he couldn’t read.
They interviewed family members and friends about their first communions, made a poster, and presented their projects to the class. They also attended a special communion retreat on April 27, and all of the Catholic students made their first communion the next morning.
They participated in one last fun pep rally in the middle of May. Riley said Ms. Cobb wanted him to play one of the games, but he decided not to. Stinker.
Megan doesn’t drink so she got a Caffe Caffe gift card, but I gave the boys’ other three teachers bottles of wine and bags of cookies for their end of the year gifts. They definitely deserved it after a long, hard year!
Riley is officially a third grader now, and he will move to the big building. It will also be the first year he won’t have a teacher with a first name beginning with “A.” So crazy. But the two third grade teachers are sisters (one of whom is the mom of Rory’s big buddy Anthony) and we have heard they make an amazing team. I can’t wait to see how much he progresses!
Rory’s recap is next, but it’s much more detailed. Wish me luck!
