Sadly, we did not make it out to Greek Fest this year. Jeff was kind enough to get me a box of pastries after he ran the 5K on Friday night, though. God bless him for that. But we did make it to NOWFE!
It was back in the Convention Center this year, thank goodness. WAY better venue, although it was much smaller than anyone expected it to be. Instead of the 8 or so areas of offerings that are usually there, there were only three. THREE! But the space was really pretty, and we made the most of it.
Erin, Jeff, Kenny, and I drove down with Nola and Nopsi, and Aunt Dede, Uncle Dean, and Taylor met us there. We also saw Jay and Katie and Scott and Jacque before we went in. It was a great group!
We enjoyed lots of great food and tasty wines. Some of my favorite dishes were beef short ribs with jalapeno cheddar grits from Curio, filet tip crostini with roasted poblano butter from Morton’s, strawberry salmon gravlax with pressed watermelon, tarragon, and chile relish from the Rib Room, and a cane syrup and blackberry trifle from DTB. All so good. And the wine I kept going back to was, surprisingly, an Italian white: Verdicchio. Delish.
After the Grand Tasting was over, Kenny and I walked over to Nosh with Scott and Jacque for one more drink that we didn’t really need. Kenny had a dark and stormy, which was a poor choice: it put him over the edge and he passed out on the couch when we got home. But not before he took an amazing picture surrounded by tigers. He was feeling good.
We had a great time, but we were all fairly disappointed in this event that we have enjoyed for many years, so I’m not sure we’ll attend the next one. We shall see!

Go Kenny! Especially love the NOLA 300 pic.
That picture of Kenny makes me laugh every time I see it. I may have to frame it.
