For the third year in a row, we were welcomed back to Diana and Jamey’s condo at Miramar Beach for a long weekend. The four of us drove over on Thursday, June 7 and stayed for three nights.
Dana, Dave, Claire, and Colin were able to go on Wednesday, so they were already there when we arrived. Once we had unpacked the car, all 9 of us set out for a late afternoon at the beach. It was beautiful!
The next morning, after breakfast, we loaded up into two cars to do something different. We drove to Destin Harbor, rented a pontoon boat, and ventured out to Crab Island, a vast underwater sandbar located north of the Destin bridge. It’s a popular place to anchor a boat and play in the shallow water all day long. There are even floating restaurants, a general store, and multiple small patrolling ice cream boats. We got out there just before 10am and stayed until after 3pm. It was a fun day, but I think I prefer going to the Gulf. Glad we did it, though!
We got back to the condo, showered, and settled in for a relaxing night. Everyone was pretty tired from our long day out on the water. The kids ate good dinners and glazed over in front of TV before they crashed, and the adults managed to stay up long enough to play a new game (That’s What She Said, very similar to Cards Against Humanity).
Saturday was our last full day. That morning, the kids made Ms. Paulin a cute “Happy Birthday” video, and Riley ended up losing another tooth. It had been very wiggly the night before, and it must have come out as he was brushing his teeth on Saturday morning. We never found it, but he left the Tooth Fairy a note that night and she still brought him $2.
We got out to the beach later than usual, so we had to walk pretty far for a decent spot. Once we were set up, though, we stayed out there for 6 hours. The kids ran trucks, dug in the sand, played in the water, snacked, looked for shells, and boogie boarded. They had a great time!
We had another nice night together and then we said goodbye the next morning. The kids very much look forward to this trip, so I’m really glad it has come together for three years. Thanks for having us, Diana and Jamey!
