School Days: PK4 Second Nine Weeks {Rory}

Ready for this? It’s gonna be a long one!

During the second nine weeks, PK4 learned about the letters T, I, N, C, O, F, H, and D; the numbers 6-10; and the colors green and purple.

They also read lots of new stories (The Three Bears, We Are Family, What Can Pop?, Little Red Hen, My Garden, It Is Hot!, Little Juan and the Cooking Pot, and Dad Can Cook), practiced sounding out and blending words, and learned five more sight words: the, it, are, my, is.

In math, they learned about front/back, top/bottom, left/right, before/after, first/last, and shapes.

In religion, they learned that Jesus teaches to praise God, about God’s house the church, Jesus’s two rules for us, Jesus teaches us to help others, wrong choices (sin), blessings, Advent, and Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem.

They did experiments with ice, learned about turtles, frogs, insects, and iguanas, talked about life on a farm, and discussed the parts of a plant.

They were tested for their report cards at the end of the semester on lots of skills, including making the sign of the cross correctly, reciting the Glory Be prayer, writing and recognizing numbers 1-10, counting aloud, sets 1-10, and all of the letters covered in the first semester. Rory did very well!

They also talked about fire prevention and safety, did lots of holiday-related projects, and had a few fun activities with their big buddies.

They trick-or-treated around school on Halloween!

They completed an art project on November 2. We made cute football decorations for their fair booth!

Colin and Rory gave their big buddy Anthony a birthday gift during morning assembly on November 7. Anthony turned 13 the next day!

 

They took class pictures on November 8.

They had a Thanksgiving feast in the breezeway outside of their classrooms on November 17. It was a beautiful day!

 

They had a special morning assembly on December 1 and the whole school donated teddy bears to a great cause. Rory’s classmate Scarlet’s dad started a program to provide policemen with bears to comfort kids involved in accidents, domestic disputes, etc. The school collected so many bears this day; it was awesome!

St. Nick (a.k.a. me and Dana, and Terah for Kelsey’s class) visited them on December 6 and left treats in the shoes they set outside of their classroom.

They enjoyed a pajama day on December 11. Dr. Speeg came to read a book to them and gave everyone Christmas stickers.

Rory’s behavior is still stellar, his handwriting is much improved (especially when he takes his time, Mrs. Sue says), he loves to answer questions in class, and he is kind to his friends. We couldn’t ask for anything more!
