Pensacola 2017: Days Five through Eight

We finally got a break in the weather on day five and were able to go straight outside to play. Not before my two boys gave me the stinkeye for making them put their bathing suits and sunscreen on, though. Geez; you’d think they would have been excited to finally get out!

When we finally got out, there was lots of dock jumping for everyone. And LOTS of fish swimming around us.

The rain showed back up just before lunch. Rory, Kate, and Luke had a great time driving the two dump trucks through a big puddle out front.

The rest of the day was a wash, so we stayed inside and took it easy. However, the skies cleared and a double rainbow came out just after the kids finished their dinners. It was so pretty!

Everyone woke up with high hopes the next morning but rain kept us inside again until almost lunchtime. We played games, watched videos on the iPad, colored, and made smoothies in an attempt to not be bored.

Then, just before lunch, it looked like there would be a decent break, so Kenny, Jeff, and I took the three older kids to the Gulf side while the rest stayed back at the house. We ate lunch over there and played for lots of the afternoon. Until another storm blew in and forced us back to the house!

Only Luke napped that day and the other three were in rare form once they had all bathed. They ended up putting a pair of Rory’s underwear on Maui, which they thought was hysterical. However, not surprisingly, once it was time to settle down and go to bed, they all fell asleep very quickly.

The next day was Friday, our last day. Luckily, the weather was gorgeous all day long. We were out pretty early to make the most of the time we had left. Nopsi also took me, Rory, Aunt E, Uncle Jeff, and Luke on a boat ride. Rory had been asking all week to take a boat ride under the big bridge, and we were finally able to do it. Oh, and Rory and Luke both ended up with epic boat hair!

When we got back from our cruise around the bay, Riley decided he wanted to go for one last tube ride. He also really wanted to wipe out and fall off like he had done twice previously, and Kenny and I had to explain to him that you don’t usually want to fall out of the tube when you’re being pulled at 20mph.

So he and Kenny “fell out” when we got close to the dock. Good enough for him, I guess!

When we got back it was time to start cleaning up and rinsing off everything to pack up. We also had to release all of the hermit crabs and snails that Riley had been collecting all week long. He found so many of them and put them in Nopsi’s bait box that we tied to the dock gate.

Kenny ended up staying out with the boys for a long time after that. They jumped off the dock a few last times and floated in the water and just generally enjoyed the sunshine.

Kate, meanwhile, opened her beauty salon for one very special customer. I tried to get the boys to let her cut their hair but they wouldn’t go for it.

Once everyone had finally showered, we gathered out on the deck for our annual beach family pictures.

These might be my favorites, though. Outtakes are the best.

The kids curled up on the sofa for a bit before bed and the adults managed to play a round of Phase 10 before calling it a night. Our beach vacation was coming to a close.

We were on the road the next morning by 10am. And you know we had to stop at McDonald’s again for lunch. These two were determined to add to their Beanie Boo collections! And one very nice worker got the animal that Rory wanted out of the display case because that was the only one they had. So very sweet of her to do that.

A quick nap for both boys and suddenly we were home again.

Thanks so much, Nola and Nopsi, for another wonderful week. We had such a great time!
