We recently learned that one of our friends from college, Jeremy, was diagnosed with stage 4 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He is married to a wonderful woman, Johanna, and together they have three daughters. He’s also a high school principal in Baton Rouge.
And he’s our age.
A group of Jeremy’s close friends rallied around him and, in just 4 months, organized an inaugural fundraiser event benefiting him and his family. They plan to make it an annual thing, choosing a different local family to support each year. They called it Clash of the Cooks, and it took place in a parking lot on LSU’s campus on June 24.
This year the food battle was jambalaya. Kenny and I took the boys with us and spent the day in BR. It was so nice to hang with some friends we hadn’t seen in a long time. We know many of these people from tailgating at LSU but don’t see them often. So it was wonderful for all of us to be in the same place again, and for a great cause.
The boys were total troopers all day long. It was hot out, they didn’t know anyone else, and they were tired. But they powered through, and Riley even tried a number of the jambalaya offerings from the 20+ teams.
Our friend Pat’s team ended up winning judge’s choice, and a 9-year-old chef named William won people’s choice. “Make Pastalaya Great Again” won best team name. It was an awesome event, and we were so glad we could be there to show our support for Jeremy.
The weather turned menacing right as the event ended, but Kenny and I decided we had to make one quick stop before heading home. We had to show the boys Tiger Stadium!
Much love and support and prayers to Jeremy and his family.

What a wonderful post. Random comments: The boys look so big. Anywhere there are trucks to play with, they're good. SO glad you got to rendezvous with college friends.....that's always a gift. The picture of y'all roaring like Mike makes me tear up.....such great memories of tailgating with YOU in BR. And YES, prayers to Jeremy and his family. What a FABULOUS event.
Jeremy and his family are so blessed to have such loving, generous friends. My prayers are with them that his disease will be brought under control/cured quickly.
When did Riley's hair get so blonde? Such a cutie (as is his little brother; goes without saying!)!
