Endymion, Thoth, and Rex {Mardi Gras 2017}

We took a break from parades on Friday but had two long days on Saturday and Sunday. Endymion Saturday was up first, and we went back to Dave’s office for most of the day. It was gorgeous out!

The kids ran around and played all afternoon. The parade got to us just before 5pm. Riley sat next to Colin in his ladder, while Rory was in and out of Corinne’s really tall ladder. (Dana ended up having to take Claire home on account of her running fever.)

Matthew’s dad Josh rides in Endymion, so Riley and I ran up to try to get his attention. He heard us and threw Riley a really cool light-up medallion. Uncle Jeff and his friend Jay also rode this year and had the best time. They went by us really fast, but we got some cool stuff from them!

Thoth Sunday was next, and it’s always a favorite of ours. We were a little late getting to our usual parking spot by the zoo (Popeyes was super crowded), but we got out to the route with our chicken and biscuits just after noon. Thank goodness Thoth always runs late!

We set up near Scott’s family, and Scott himself even came by to say hi before getting onto his float. (His wife Jacque is awesome and let him ride despite having a brand new baby at home.)

The theme this year was “Cooking with Thoth,” so every float was food-related and all of the krewe wore chef hats. So fun! The boys even got into the theme by snacking relentlessly throughout the entire parade. Oh, and we saw our 610 Stomper friend Fred!

We had such a fun time and the boys came home with some pretty cool stuff. Rory loves his green starfish and they both love their rainbow snake from Scott.

And of course we had to stay to watch the clean-up crew do their thing. It’s the boys’ favorite part!

We took another break from parades on Monday but we went out to see Rex for the second year in a row on Tuesday morning. It’s a classic Mardi Gras parade, and the floats are so pretty. It was just a little too warm out there this year for our comfort level. However, both boys came home with new favorite stuffed animals: a shiny rainbow snake for Riley and a spotted lizard for Rory, that he named Blue.

We picked up boiled crawfish on our way home for a late lunch and said a fond farewell to another wonderful Mardi Gras season.

I wonder if these boys know how lucky they are to grow up in New Orleans.

After all, everywhere else, it was just a Tuesday.
