Halfway to one year…..how did that happen?
At six months, Rory weighs 21 pounds and measures about 27 inches long. He is still a chunker, with rubber band wrists and the chubbiest thighs I have ever seen. Both boys have an appointment with Dr. N on Monday, so I’ll do a recap of that sometime next week.
Here’s what I want to remember about this past month:
- He takes four bottles of 6-8 ounces each day, at approximately 6am, 11am, 3pm, and 6pm. He also eats oatmeal cereal for breakfast (9am), a stage one fruit for lunch (12pm), and a stage two veggie and oatmeal cereal for dinner (5pm).
- He has tried all of the veggies (green beans, peas, carrots, squash, and sweet potatoes) and most of the fruits (apples, peaches, and bananas).
- He likes to hold on to my pinky fingers while he eats, and I like to let him so I can prevent him hitting the bottle or spoon out of his mouth.
- He is still spitting up but not very often at all. Hallelujah.
- He often falls asleep in the car on the way home from taking Riley to school, and sometimes he transfers well to the sling but sometimes he doesn’t. I’m trying to get him to sleep decently in the mornings for a first nap, but it’s not always consistent. He usually goes down for his second nap around 1pm, and I sometimes have to wake him up so we can leave to get Riley from school.
- Unfortunately, he almost never gets a third nap when he really needs one. He’s usually so excited to see his big brother when we pick him up that he doesn’t want to sleep when we get home. Because of that, I try to have him in his crib for the night around 6:30pm. He usually whimpers a few times during the night, but we don’t go into his room until 5:30am at the earliest.
- When sitting in my lap or in the Bumbo, he has started to rock from side to side. It’s so cute.
- He seems to prefer being on his back, although he doesn’t have as many opportunities to be on his stomach since I always seem to have things to do and places to go. And when he is on his back, he often kicks his legs vigorously.
- He grabs his feet fairly often these days, although he doesn’t bring them to his mouth all that much. But he is starting to suck on his fingers more and more. And he discovered my hair and gets a mighty good grip on it. Ouch.
- He seems to be drooling more…..maybe he’s starting to get some teeth.
- He has started making “ma” and “ba” sounds, and he’s quite vocal throughout the day.
- He rolled over for the first time on August 30.
- He had his first little sniffles this month, which turned into a fairly bad cold that hasn’t gone away yet. Stuffy/runny nose and a horrible sounding phlegmy cough. But he’s still smiling!
- Speaking of which, he is such a happy boy. He smiles all the time and it never fails to tug at my proud mama heart.
Six months old!
