After a crazy Christmas Day, the days following were blessedly lazy. There was a LOT of Lego building; the boys completely took over the dining room table with the sets they got for Christmas. They put together something like 9 or 10 sets in less than a week. Impressive, although Kenny and I tried to get them to slow down and space their building out. However, Riley built every single set he got, and Rory only has one big one left. But their most recent battles have been pretty epic.
They did take a break from the Legos one afternoon to go outside and do the Treasure X they each got from Santa. It’s a mini excavation kit that yields a skeleton figure, a weapon, and a treasure chest containing a unique treasure. They had fun discovering what they got!
They also made time to play in the huge pile of leaves on Nola and Nopsi’s driveway. Kate and Luke were there too, but Kate didn’t last in the wet and dirty leaves for very long. The weather has been insanely gross here for days and the leaves soaked it all up. All three boys came inside absolutely filthy and had to get right in the tub!
Riley got a few new book series from Nola, and he has really gotten into The Last Kids on Earth. He even made sure to clean up his mess quickly one afternoon so he would have time to read! Be still my literary heart.
Then on Saturday, December 29 we had the SCR friends over for our annual Christmas party. I made a big pot of chili, everyone else brought an appetizer or a dessert, and we ordered pizza for the kids. We exchanged gifts, too: I made everyone customized picture collages, which they loved. The boys got Nerf guns from Terah, another Treasure X from Diana, personalized Grinch mugs and hot chocolate from Heidi, and 3-D dinosaur puzzles from Dana. The kids all had so much fun playing that we never made it out to see the Lafreniere lights like we normally do. In fact, we completely missed out on seeing any of the big light displays this year. Oh, well!
Happy 2019 everyone. New Year’s recap coming up next!

That picture of Riley reading in his tidy room did my heart good, too!
