Before we talk about NOLA’s Great Freeze of January 2018, let’s discuss how we were enjoying absolutely beautiful weather a couple of days before. The boys were off for MLK Day on January 15, so a group of us went to the zoo. We had a really great day!
Everyone went to school as usual the next day. However, there was an insanely cool yet eerie-looking cloud that moved through over the lake during drop-off. And then all matter of weather-related hell broke loose late Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. SUPER cold temperatures moved in and caused a major freeze, lots of ice, and even some snow.
We woke up to freezing temperatures, lots of ice on the ground, and no school. The city essentially shut down since the roads just weren’t safe to drive on. Kenny stayed home from work, and we mostly stayed inside keeping warm. But of course we did bundle up and venture out a few times to play in the “snow.” The boys had a blast!
School ended up being cancelled the rest of the week, first because of the freeze and then because of water issues. Pipes around the city burst, and the water pressure dropped. Our entire area was put under a boil water advisory for two and a half days. What a pain. But everything was back to normal by midday on Saturday, January 20, and school finally resumed on Monday the 22nd.
Glad this didn’t happen during Mardi Gras; that would have really sucked. Parades start this weekend, y’all. Have a good one, and please pray that no one in my house gets sick before the boys’ school parade. It’s a special year for Rory!

I can't wait to find out why this is a special year for Rory ... his first school parade as a participant?
