Well, this is it. Summer is officially over; school starts tomorrow for Rory and on Friday for Riley. Here’s what we’ve been doing during our last couple weeks of summer.
Riley went to 2nd grade readiness camp at school the week of July 24. He got to hang out with his two new teachers, Ms. Paulin and Ms. Cobb, who both told me multiple times that they just love my Riley-bean. Hopefully they will still think so when real school starts and he complains about having to do work again!
The almost second graders had a fun week: they made slime (which Riley spilled all over himself 10 minutes before I picked him up), watercolored a paper plate beach ball, performed the Mentos + soda experiment, and practiced lots of math and ELA skills.
Oh, and Riley ended up seeing his PK3 teacher Ms. Amanda, who was at SCR helping her cousin set up her new first grade classroom, on one of his camp days. So fun!
And on the last day of camp, Riley came home with a special something: he lost another tooth and Ms. Paulin put it in a tiny green tooth treasure chest. Adorable.
While Riley was having fun at camp on Thursday, Rory and I met Aunt E, Kate, and Luke at Nola and Nopsi’s for some swim time. He was shy at first but it didn’t take Rory too long before he was zipping down the slide over and over again. Crazy fries.
That afternoon, once we had picked up the campers, a bunch of us met at Tutti Frutti for a fun treat. And Ms. Lisa came too! It’s become somewhat of a tradition to meet her there at some point during the summer.
Then the four moms decided that the kids needed to run off some of the sugar, so we all went to the Wilson playground for an hour or so before dinner. So hot, but the kids had a great time.
Two days later, they were all back together again for a fun evening at Heidi’s house. Everyone brought something to contribute for dinner and we all hung out for more than 4 hours. And did I mention that Heidi’s neighbors came and brought their ice luge??? Yeah. It was a fun night.
On Monday, July 31 (Kate’s birthday!), the boys and I met Diana and Alcee at the Children’s Museum. We did a lot over the course of a couple of hours and enjoyed spending the time with the two of them.
Later that same afternoon, I brought the boys to Splits for an ice cream/snoball treat.
The next day, August 1, we got together with the whole group to swim at Nola and Nopsi’s. This was our last day spent with friends before returning to school. The kids all had a great time, and teachers Heidi and Diana didn’t want it to end.
However, summer was not quite over for Kenny, the boys, and me. We had one more adventure to take.
